DEFINITION OF A NEIGHBOURHOOD PARKParks that serve local residences within a 0.8km (1/2 mile) radius and provide passive recreation and leisure opportunities, open space, trees and may include pathways, small playgrounds, benches, and picnic areas. Neighbourhood parks may also include enhancements such as non-programmed sport fields and picnic shelters.
DEFINITION OF A COMMUNTIY PARKCommunity parks are similar to neighbourhood parks however they are larger in scale and offer a broader selection of recreational activities. Community parks offer amenities such as splash pads, larger playgrounds, picnic areas, benches, trees, shelter, community centre, washroom facilities, organized sport fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, dog park, skate park etc. Community Parks can range in size from 2 to 8 hectares ( 5 to 20 acres).
DEFINITION OF A REGINOAL PARKRegional parks vary in scale and attract users from all across the city and surrounding areas. They are able to accommodate large gatherings and festivals or tournaments and typically have unique features not found in any other park such as tournament recreational facilities, sculptural art pieces, large concert and gathering areas and they attract tourists. Regional parks have a broad range of amenities including those found in neighhourhood and community parks but also have larger programmed sports complexes and are more cultural in natures providing tourist attractions and economic benefits.
