Welcome to the May edition of the Council Buzz, I

hope that you and your families are keeping well.

I would firstly like to thank everyone for your

resilience, patience and cooperation during this

challenging time. Phase 3 of the easing of

restrictions in Western Australia is now in effect

throughout the state which will help get Western

Australians back to work, resume social and

recreational activities, and begin to restart WA’s economy.

Shire facilities update:

The Shire of Jerramungup has completed a COVID-19 safety plan and we

have reopened our Shire Administration office to the public.

The remaining public facilities such as public toilets, playgrounds and halls

have also now reopened. Please remember that physical distancing, good

hygiene and the 2 square metre rule applies to all activities permitted in

Phase 3.

Support Local:

Small business are the heart of our local economy. With recent closures

many of our much-loved local restaurants, cafes, pubs, clubs, tourism

operators, accommodation providers and other businesses are doing it

extremely tough. Restrictions necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19

led to stand-downs, staff lay-offs and left many businesses struggling to

stay afloat.

With restrictions now eased we would like to encourage all residents to

support and celebrate small businesses in our Shire. Whether its enjoying a

meal or night away lets all support the places we know and love.

We've all had to make sacrifices for the fight against the pandemic and I

once again thank the community for their support during this time.

If you have any concerns or issues to raise please don’t hesitate to contact

me by calling the Shire office on 9835 1022.

SHIRE OF JERRAMUNGUP

COVID-19 - FINANCIAL HARDSHIP APPLICATION

The Shire of Jerramungup (The Shire) is committed to supporting the whole community withstand the

unprecedented challenges arising from the COVID19 pandemic and recognises that these challenges will

result in financial hardship for our ratepayers and other debtors who receive services from the Shire.

To ensure that we offer fair, equitable, consistent and dignified support to those suffering hardship, while

treating all members of the community with respect and understanding at this difficult time, please consider

submitting a Financial Hardship Application (FHA). This can be accessed by contacting

[email protected].

Financial hardship occurs where a person is unable to pay rates and services charges or other Shire fees

without affecting their ability to meet their basic living needs, or the basic living needs of their dependents.

The Shire recognises the likelihood that COVID19 will increase the occurrence of payment difficulties, financial

hardship, and vulnerability in our community.

To complete the FHA, evidence of hardship is required and debtors are encouraged to provide any

information about their circumstances that may be relevant for assessment. A flexible approach will be taken

to a range of individual circumstances including, but not limited to, the following situations:

recent unemployment or under-employment

sickness or recovery from sickness

low income or loss of income

unanticipated circumstances such as caring for and supporting extended family

If the Shire determines a debtor is in financial hardship, the eligible debtor will be offered a payment plan

based on their application which will comprise of the following:

an extension in time to pay;

a payment plan; and

a suspension of interest charges and administration fees whilst a payment plan is in place.

Please return applications to [email protected] for review and assessment.

This project has been funded by Federal Building Better Regions grants and Shire contributions .

being built in Bremer Bay and a house and 2 units being

built in Jerramungup. Completion is expected at the end

This month the Construction crew finished upgrade

works on Dillon Bay Road which consisted of replac-

ing several culverts, trimming overhanging vegetation

then forming and gravel sheeting 2.3kms. These

improvement works will continue next financial year

which will complete the entire length of this road.

These works will dramatically reduce the mainte-

nance that has been required on this section over

numerous years and greatly enhance traffic safety for

motorists using this road.

The crew then relocated back to Marnigarup East

Road to continue forming and gravel sheeting the

3km section heading East from South Coast Highway.

Routine maintenance grading and gravel patching

will continue to rectify some of the blowouts in the

road pavement until more favourable conditions

occur where we can undertake full winter grades.

At this time of year, please be aware of the changing

road conditions and drive accordingly as the pave-

ment can deteriorate very quickly.

The Town Services team with the assistance of

Jerramungup Electrical trenched and then laid

50mm poly pipe from the solar pump at the

Needilup Dam to the new 250,000ltr tank at the old

Needilup tennis courts site. Jerramungup Electrical

should be acknowledged for kindly donating the

operator’s time and trenching machine for these

works as it will greatly benefit the community into

the future.

Before Great Southern TAFE closed due to COVID-

19, 3,000 native tube stock seedlings were picked

up. These were propagated from seeds collected

within the Meechi Road worksite by TAFE students

undertaking their Cert III and IV CLM training. These

tube stock will be planted as part of the Meechi

Road rehabilitation works. In addition, the crew have

also been collecting native seeds from the site which

will be direct seeded to complement the tube stock

planting.

In May we said a sad farewell to our longest

serving Shire employee Phil Polain. Phil has

worked tirelessly as our Building Officer for

the past 19 years and is now looking forward

to retirement with his lovely wife Yvonne.

Thank you for all your hard work and

dedication to the Shire over the years, you

will be very much missed!

We wish you and Yvonne a very happy and

fulfilling retirement.
