Welcome to the Plymouth Film Festival

Building on the rich tradition of film in the city, we will be showcasing a selection of the best short films from both local, national and international film-making talent.

The Plymouth film festival takes place in the Plymouth Arts Centre on the 17th May 2014 and is an opportunity to watch some amazing short films, and for filmmakers to showcase their work and be rewarded and recognised for it.

FESTIVAL SCREENINGS

With each category shortlisted to just 8-10 films, you have the opportunity to watch the pick of the submissions and place your all important vote for the prestigious Audience Choice award.

BEST FICTION FILM NOMINATIONS

Open to any genre of fiction film including animation, and experimental.

Camelot - Robin Mason (Drama)Nothing ever came easy to Claudia, she had to fight for everything she ever got. The one thing she was promised was a 1981 Ford Capri, a gem of a car that her father had restored to a near new condition. However, when hard times fell on the family, the car was sold, and Claudia’s dreams of escape dissipated. When Claudia discovers the car back up for sale there’s nothing she won’t do to get it back.

The Acrobat - Gerardo Herrero (Drama)Every forty seconds a person commits suicide in the world. This is the story of one of them.

Ain’t No Fish - Michael Cash (Animated Musical Comedy)Set to the music and lyrics of Sigman and Russell and performed by Hoagy Carmichael. It’s an ‘easy-go-lucky’ song about fishing performed by seals in the Arctic and it’s slowly revealed in the background why there ‘Ain’t No Fish.’

Dos Caras (Two Face) - Francisco Bendomir (Comedy Drama)Sergio discovers that his girlfriend’s grandmother is hiding an old Russian jewel in her house which really catches his eye. (subs)

C.T.R.L - Mariana Conde (Action Comedy)A young man’s attempt at a first contact with a love interest is hijacked in a most entertaining way.

Waking Marshall Walker - Bjorn Thorstad, Gabriel Baron (Drama)An encounter with a mysterious stranger sends Marshall Walker on a desperate race through memory and time to reunite with his estranged daughter Charlotte and undo a fateful mistake, or risk being trapped between worlds forever.

One Man’s Loss - Philip Sansom (Comedy Drama)A down and out vagabond’s luck is dramatically altered when he treads on a piece of glass outside the apartment of an arguing couple. You never know what fate is about to throw your way.

The Present - Dino Kazamia (Drama)A mechanic celebrates his birthday in the company of his pet dog. During a day working peacefully alone he is visited by his estranged father who leaves a birthday card. Memories of a troubled past invade his thoughts.

As soon as Gilles enters his room, the hotel receptionist knocks on his door and asks Gilles to help care for a young woman who was badly beaten… (subs)

Engineering the London Underground - Jevan ChowdhuryA film celebrating the illustrious 150 year history of London’s Tube network and the vital role that civil engineers played in delivering one of the world’s first and busiest transport networks.

The Salmon Smoker - Nikolaj BelzerA short documentary about a renowned urban artisanal salmon smoker, this film explores Ole Hansen’s very own world and his radical individualist approach to life.

Le Skate Moderne - Antoine Besse“Le Skate Moderne” brings us a group of skateboarders who think nothing of taking to the mud and skating through the unusual and atypical surroundings of the French countryside.

The Bird Man of Red Road - Chris LeslieBuilt in 1967, the Red Road flats in Glasgow were once home to over 4500 people. Now most of the blocks have been emptied and demolition has already begun. Jamal Hamad, a failed Iraqi Kurdish asylum seeker, has lived alone in one block for several months. Living in the block alone is dangerous; but Jamal sees no other choice.

Time on the Hill - Ryan DeanTime on the Hill will take the viewer on a stunning journey through the process of deer stalking across the beautiful valleys and mountains of the Scottish Highlands from a perspective rarely seen.

Seams and Embers - Claire LamondYoung Jim follows his coal-mining forefathers into a rough working life underground, while diehard miners from the Midlothian mining community in Scotland tell of how a rugged industry died hard.

Twice National Road Race Champion and Olympian, at the age of 71 Colin still rides competitively. From the price of potatoes to the Tour de France start line, the film offers a glimpse of the racing career and retirement of this creative and determined character.

Peaks Of Life - Kris Forrest (Documentary)Peaks Of Life is the story of upcoming Downhill Mountain bike rider Tom Wheeler, who two years ago sustained a life changing injury while competing in Rheola, Wales.

Revolve - Andreas Olenberg (Thriller)Six people get together in the middle of nowhere to play a game with high stakes and uncompromising rules. A rotating revolver between them. There can be only one winner... (subs)
