COURSE TITLE: EXPLORING ENGINEERING/ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

(MS. GREEN)

The Exploring Engineering/Engineering and

Technology (6th Grade) course introduces students

to the process of design, the importance of

engineering graphics, and applications of electricity

and electronics, mechanics, energy,

communications, automation/robotics,

manufacturing processes and control

systems/computer programming. This course also

helps students build a solid foundation in

technological literacy while they study engineering-

related careers and educational pathways.

This course introduces students to working through

an engineering design process while looking at

technological impacts on society. It reinforces the

areas of math, science, social studies, and

language arts through practical application and / or

hands- on activities. Exposure to E&T related

careers, work ethics and leadership skills will be

important components in this course. At the end of

this course, students will understand how

engineering & technology impact them and the

world around them and careers available to them in

the field.

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

The purpose of Technology Education is to develop

technological literacy as part of all students'

fundamental education through an activity-based

study of past, present, and future technological

systems and their resources, processes, and

impact on society. Technology Education utilizes

computer and educational technology in the

delivery of content related to systems of

communication, energy/power-transportation,

production, and bio-related technologies.

TEHNOLOGY STUDENT ASSOCIATION

TSA

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national, non-profit organization of middle and high school students who are engaged in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Since TSA was chartered in 1978, almost 4,000,000 student members have participated through challenging competitions, leadership opportunities, and community service.

In addition to classroom/ laboratory experiences, students participate in the Technology Student Association (TSA). Activities of the TSA are an integral part of the instructional program because they promote/foster personal growth, leadership and opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Members apply and integrate these concepts through co-curricular activities, competitions, and related programs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Broadcast & Graphic Communications (6th), Intro to Communications (7th), and Applications to Communications (8th) courses introduce students

to the concepts and careers in the fields of communications as well as the high school

pathways in Graphic Communications/Design, Broadcasting, and A/V Production. Topics covered include but are not limited to the following: history of mass media, terminology, professional ethics,

safety, basic equipment, script writing, storyboarding, directing, recording and editing a

production, and graphic communications.

The Intro to Graphics and Design (9th grade HS course; teacher recommendation/approval only) is

the foundational course for both the Graphics Production and Graphics Design HS pathways. Per successful completion (85 or higher) of the class as well as the prerequisites, the 8th grade student will

obtain a high school course credit.

AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS AND TUTORIALS

Tutorials are offered twice a week for students who want to accelerate their skills on the

instrument. Peer tutoring is encouraged for students who are more advanced than others. After school

rehearsals are required before every concert and performance.

FESTIVALS AND FIELD TRIPS

Orchestra students have multiple opportunities to demonstrate their growth. They participate in school

programs , concerts, district mandated performance evaluations, and participate in local and out of

state music festivals. Our Orchestra students earn Superior ratings for their music performances .

Instruments can be rented from a local music store. Talk to the director before ordering online.

• Rentals are on a month to month basis starting at $30 depending on

the type of instrument you are renting.

• You are not obligated to purchase the instrument.

• Renting recommended for the first year.

• If your child decides not to participate in band the following year, the

instrument maybe returned at no additional charge.
