The Transition Learning Center provides real world opportunities to teach young adults valuable skills, helping each student reach their highest level of INDEPENDENCE in work, leisure, community, and daily living.
About the TLC
• TLC is an extension of the classroom that helps young adults transition into society and the world of work.
• It is designed to help prepare students for vocational training, learn social and community skills, and learn leisure skills to be productive when school ends.
• The TLC provides work-based training positions with local businesses.
• The TLC job sites are not intended to develop into a paid position; rather they are a preparation and skill-acquiring experience that will be helpful for obtaining and keeping a job in the future and/or to help provide guidance in being an active member of the surrounding community.
Important Information to be aware of:
• Program Hours: Monday through Thursday from 8:00am-2:00pm.
• We follow the district calendar for breaks and non-school days.
• No TLC on Fridays
• We are on the Preschool calendar and for the 2020-2021 school year. The TLC starts September 3rd.
• Our last day of school is always the day before MSHS Graduation.
• Students need to come to school with a Lunch. Free and reduced lunch is available upon request and application.
Transportation Options
Transportation: Transportation is provided by Snoqualmie Valley School District. Please Call 425-831-8020 to arrange Transportation to the TLC.
Snoqualmie Valley Transportation (SVT.) You can set up a “Prescription” for regular Transportation. Please call 425-888-7001.
No School on Fridays Please keep in mind and look into Day Programs or other activities for your student.
Curriculum That We Use
A Typical Week at the TLC
• Once a week, your student will go on a Community Outing, either on Monday or Tuesday.
• We will explore and learn about our community and surrounding areas. Lessons include:
• Metro Training, Using Metro,
• Shopping Skills
• Ordering Lunch
• Various Leisure Activities outdoors, i.e. Parks, Hikes
• Visiting local businesses and having FUN!
Community Job Sites:Tuesday
Wednesday Thursday
• TLC students will have a weekly schedule that includes participation in a community job site as well as activities at the TLC.
• Students are supervised at Job Sites by TLC para educators and teachers.
• In a student’s first quarter at the TLC, we will evaluate his or her skills and interests to best place the student in a meaningful jobsite.
• Community Job Sites provide real world experiences for students, staff, and community members while in a safe and positive environment.

How Schedules are Determined:
Student ExpectationsDRESS CODE:
• All students need to come to TLC as if they are going to work.
• Clean jeans or dress pants – NO shorts, sweatpants or jogging pants
• Clean shirts – T-shirts (without writing), polo shirts, dress shirts.
• A shirt with the TLC logo will be provided for internships and work-based training sites and it is mandatory to wear (Like a uniform for work☺).
• Sturdy shoes – tennis shoes are great• Jackets, hats and gloves for cold/wet weather• Please don’t wear clothes that are torn, have
holes or are dirty. HYGIENE:
• Hair must be clean and styled.• Males must be clean shaven or intentionally
groomed• Teeth brushed• Body clean/no odor
ATTITUDE: • We are Positive, Kind and Respectful to each
other and the community.
Expectations for Parents
• You are your son/daughter’s best advocate.
• We encourage independence: The TLC kindly asks that you do not visit worksites during the school day.
• Please communicate with the teacher any concerns or suggestions that may be pertinent to the success of your child.
• Please guide them to get themselves ready for the TLC : clean, dressed appropriately, rested and fed ☺
What Can You Do?
PromotePromote understanding of oneself, including how one’s health and disability will impact work. This is key to becoming an effective self-advocate and essential to postsecondary education and employment success.

Expose Expose your student to the community by experiencing activities they enjoy.
Promote Promote community awareness and mobility (public transit, driving, walking)
Encourage and reinforceEncourage and reinforce the learning of activities of daily living at home, i.e. personal hygiene, managing personal items, making lunch for school.
Be Be willing to take Reasonable Risks to help your student gain independence.
Make Make schedules/routines at home, i.e. and have a “Chore Chart”
