• Fifth year at OLR

• Benny (18 months) will be in the OLR daycare this year, and one on the way (due in February)!

• School begins at 8:00; please arrive at 7:50

• Uniform checks

• Boys: belt with their shirts tucked in

• Girls: plaid or plain headbands, no scrunchies; stud earrings; clear nails

• Black or navy dress shoes; gym shoes on Wed./Fri.

• Gym uniforms are to be worn on gym days (W/F) with OLR sweats

• Mass - Wednesdays at 8:15

• Wear gym clothes (with sweatpants and mass sweater or vest November through May)

• Students should use planners for daily assignments

• Please check your child’s planner daily for assignments and important information

• Must be returned daily, along with blue take-home folders

• Use our class website as a means of communication

• Homework/test calendar, newsletters, links, and classroom pictures

• Emailing is best during school hours; I prefer a text after school hours

• Lockers are used in the morning & afternoon

• Fast-paced; nightly homework is given

• Multiplication facts must be mastered second semester!

• Realistic approach to problem solving; applied to

real-world situations

• Hands-on approach to learning; lots of games included

• Spiraled curriculum, so we touch on topics more than once

• Multiple solving methods and strategies are taught so your child can choose their favorite

• Games provide necessary practice on mental math skills

• Friday is “Game Day” when time allows

• Given as homework on Mondays (due on Fridays usually), practiced during centers, but mainly practice at home

• Accelerated Reader (AR) Test ing Program

• Students wi l l be asked to read one book per month (they choose which book) & wi l l be tested on i t in school

• Parents can use www.ARbookf ind.com when looking up books your ch i ld can read for AR

• The iPad-based test counts as a test grade out of 10 po ints

• Below 6/10 po ints counts as 0% = d id not read

• Books must be BL (book level) 3 or h igher

• Books below a th ird grade level = 8/10 maximum grade

• Homework is due the next day, unless otherwise stated

• If your child is sick, please have their work sent home if possible; it is due the day after they return

• Late work policy:

• Late work is accepted for five school days after its due date

• The homework’s point value will decrease by 1 grade for each day overdue

• Example: one day late becomes an automatic 90%, 2 days late an 80%, etc. After 5 days it is a “zero”.
