Today is the 3rd Sunday of Easter. This season of the church year goes by the name, Eastertide. It is the most joyous season of the church year. During Eastertide we remember the miracle of Easter and share the good news of redemption and salvation with all the world.

Psalm 30 forms the theological core of our worship today. An uplifting Psalm, the ancient Hebrew text describes this as a song of dedication. Posterity attributes these words to King David, one of the patriarchs of the Bible and most prolific authors of the Psalms.

The Presbyterian Church is part of a larger group of churches known as Reformed Churches. All Reformed Churches place Prayer of Confession near the center of worship because we believe that worship is a time of bringing our whole selves -- even that which we would rather hide -- to God. God’s mercy in light of God’s love is declared as we claim the promise of Jesus Christ during the Assurance of Pardon.

Today is confirmation Sunday at White Memorial. Dozens of 8th graders have been on a confirmation journey this year learning about the Christian faith and about the practices of our church. Today is the culmination of this stage of the journey to faith for these 8th graders. At 11:00 a.m. they will declare their faith and are introduced as the newest members of our congregation.

In our tradition we practice an “open table.” This means that all Christian people are welcome to receive Communion in our church. What is the reason behind this approach? Simply that it is not technically “our table.” It is the table of the Lord, and Jesus is the host of our sacramental meal of bread and cup. Just as Jesus welcomed all, so too we welcome all.

Today is the 3rd Sunday of Easter. This season of the church year goes by the name, Eastertide. It is the most joyous season of the church year. During Eastertide we remember the miracle of Easter and share the good news of redemption and salvation with all the world.

Psalm 30 forms the theological core of our worship today. An uplifting Psalm, the ancient Hebrew text describes this as a song of dedication. Posterity attributes these words to King David, one of the patriarchs of the Bible and most prolific authors of the Psalms.

The Presbyterian Church is part of a larger group of churches known as Reformed Churches. All Reformed Churches place Prayer of Confession near the center of worship because we believe that worship is a time of bringing our whole selves -- even that which we would rather hide -- to God. God’s mercy in light of God’s love is declared as we claim the promise of Jesus Christ during the Assurance of Pardon.

and teacher Dr. Ray Vander Laan illustrates how the events of Jesus’ day impacted his life, ministry and communication…and then you’ll learn how it affects yours. Filmed on location in Israel, these Faith Lessons weave together the Bible’s fascinating historical, cultural, religious, and geographical contexts. A structured discussion follows each video lesson. The classes begin after the 8:15 a.m. service and conclude in time for participants to attend the 10:15 a.m. service. Visitors are welcome for all sessions, beginning June 9 and extending through August 11.

AN EVENING OF MUSIC: CELLO AND PIANOWe invite you to a wonderful evening of music on Monday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Kirsten Jermé is preparing an exciting program of

works for cello and piano with a fantastic new pianist in town, Bridget O’Leary, who recently relocated here from Kansas City. Our program features vibrantly colorful Sonatas by Frank Bridge and Sergei Prokofiev, and the brilliant one-movement Cello Concerto by Erich Korngold.

INTERESTED IN WALKING THE LAND JESUS WALKED – WITHOUT LEAVING RALEIGH? The Christian Fellowship Class will be offering another segment of the noted video series That The World May Know this summer in C200 each Sunday at 9:15 a.m. In a series of 20-minute videos, historian

and teacher Dr. Ray Vander Laan illustrates how the events of Jesus’ day impacted his life, ministry and communication…and then you’ll learn how it affects yours. Filmed on location in Israel, these Faith Lessons weave together the Bible’s fascinating historical, cultural, religious, and geographical contexts. A structured discussion follows each video lesson. The classes begin after the 8:15 a.m. service and conclude in time for participants to attend the 10:15 a.m. service. Visitors are welcome for all sessions, beginning June 9 and extending through August 11.

EYEGLASSES NEEDED WMPC is collecting your eyeglasses (prescription or readers) for the seminary in Wroclaw for use in their mission work in under-served areas of Eastern Europe.
