Dear Resident/Visitor,

In October we are running Wimbledon Sports Week for the second year in a row. Our Going for Gold campaign will culminate in the 2012 Olympics and we want everyone who lives, works and does business in Wimbledon to get engaged with sport!

This issue also brings you up to date with new shops and restaurants to the town – we certainly have a good mix of retail, hospitality and leisure and want you all to be regular users of everything Wimbledon has on offer.

If you are looking for culture, Wimbledon Music Festival, The Polka Theatre and New Wimbledon Theatre all feature. And don’t forget our flagship event for all the family – Winter Wonderland on November 25th – see page 14 for details.

Zero to heroes... The story continues

AFC Wimbledon are now in their ninth season since having to

reform due to the decision to let Wimbledon FC relocate to Milton Keynes. Many would say that this one incident is responsible for the rise and rise of AFC Wimbledon. As a matter of opinion that is not the only driver that has caused such a huge success story.

The club has grown due to the dedication of many volunteers and an ethical and honest business model. This has seen the club rise to the very top of non-league football and now finds itself

on the precipice of a return to the Football League. If this should happen this season it would be nothing short of another sporting miracle by a team carrying the name of Wimbledon.

Terry Brown, the Club’s Manager has assembled a team of highly talented young players. The team is very exciting and this has been recognised by three of the young squad being called up to the England C team. This is a great honour for both the club and its players.Tickets for the terrace are readily available for every

home match and for seats you will need to book early. The ground is neat and compact with covered seating and terracing on all sides. The atmosphere is friendly and it is easy to get both food and drink. For more details find us at www.afcwimbledon.co.uk

Visit Wimbledon Station Forecourt during Sports Week to find out more.

Terry Brown will be a guest speaker at Talking Sport on 21st October, a business networking event hosted by the Merton Chamber of Commerce.

Celebrating its 100th birthday on Boxing Day of this year,

New Wimbledon Theatre is especially excited to be staging the swashbuckling pirate adventure PETER PAN.

New Wimbledon Theatre is thrilled to announce the star casting of Sky One’s Louie Spence who has confirmed he will be spending Christmas aboard Captain Hook’s pirate ship and will be making his pantomime debut playing one of his dastardly ship mates.Following on from last year’s record-breaking Aladdin (which starred Pamela Anderson in her globally publicised UK stage debut), this year’s production promises to be a spectacular festive treat for families and

groups of all ages, mixing music, comedy, dance and high-flying special effects.

For the second year running, Peter Pan producers First Family Entertainment have secured the nation’s favourite family soft drinks company Robinsons as exclusive sponsor of their 2010/11 season. Their involvement will once again unite the family values that both Robinsons and the time-honoured British tradition of pantomime represent. As part of their sponsorship, Robinson’s have also recruited a team of local children to take part in each performance as part of the juvenile ensemble.

So, join Peter, Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys and the Darling family as they soar through the skies, encounter Captain Hook and discover the magic of Neverland at New Wimbledon Theatre this Christmas.
