Maths MasteryMaths Mastery

The Mathematics Mastery approach was founded by headteachers, mathematics leaders and heads of mathematics working in the Ark Schools network, who experienced the problem-solving focus of Singapore schools.

Deep understanding – where pupils spend more time on fewer topics. They explore concepts using objects, conversation and problem-solving to build confidence in their understanding.

There is a focus on the use of manipulatives.Maths Meetings.

SpellingSpelling

We follow the National Curriculum spelling guidelines, using a program called Spell Excel.

All the children have been assessed and given an appropriate set of words to work on for this half term. Look out for your child’s words in their class home learning book.

In class we learn spelling patterns and rules, and aim to widen children’s vocabulary. The overview is available on the website.

HandwritingHandwriting

Handwriting and presentation is a school focus this year.

We would encourage you to work with your child on their handwriting and presentation in their home learning.

When a Pen Licence is awarded, school will provide a pen, and children are then allowed to bring in a blue fibre tip pen from home.
