CurriculumThe Australian Curriculum has been adapted in all Learning Areas.
The learning areas covered will be as follows:English - 6 hours per weekMaths - 5 hours per week
Religion - 3 hours per weekScience - 1hr 45 mins per week
HASS - 2 hours per weekThe Arts - 1hr 15 mins per week
Technologies - 1hr 30 mins per weekHealth and Physical Education - 2 hours per week
Curriculum Religion is based on the Rockhampton Diocesan
Curriculum.
P.D.E. is covered during HPE and specific sessions are taught at the end of Term 3. A note will be sent home
prior.
P.E. and Music have specialist teacher - Mr Clinton Honor (P.E) and Mrs Megan Hoban (Music)
The Daily 5 and CAFEThe Daily 5 is a literacy structure that teaches independence and gives children the skills needed to create a lifetime love of reading and writing.
THE FIVE TASKS INCLUDE: 1. Read to self 2. Read to someone 3. Listen to reading 4. Work on writing 5. Word work
When all five tasks have been introduced and the children are fully engaged in reading and writing activities, teachers are able to work with small groups and confer with children one on one.

Chromebooks and Google Drive
St Mary’s is currently utilising Google Chrome and Google Drive through Years 4 – 6.
The students can access their Drive using their Google account log in anywhere there is a connection to the internet.
Please ensure your child’s chromebook is fully charged at the beginning of each day.

Homework★ Homework may vary according to individual teachers.
★ Homework can be completed on chromebook and/or in a homework book.
★ Policy states that Year 5 children should complete 30 minutes of homework each night.
★ Mathletics will be part of homework.
★ Children need to read each night with a focus on selecting ‘Good Fit’ books and building their stamina.
★ Spelling – Words per week taken from:-
■ Year 5 Core Spelling list
■ Australian Curriculum recommended spelling ■ patterns
■ Other personal or class words★ Basic facts will be part of the homework every night.
General Organisation● Library Days: Thursday 5A and 5B, and Wednesday

● Sports Uniform: Thursday and Friday
● Assembly: 8:40 Monday; 12:20pm Friday (may vary)
● Tuckshop: Wednesday and Friday
● Head Lice: Exclude from school until treated
● Birthdays: Feel free to bring in something special to celebrate. Cupcakes or individual portions would be preferable.

This year we will be going to Chaverim!
Camp will be held in Term 3 from Monday 17th to Wednesday 19th August .
The cost will be approximately $210.00 per student.
