Practice InformationDelaware Veterinary Group aims to provide the highest quality of veterinary service to our clients and pets. We are therefore constantly updating and improving our facilities and equipment, with special emphasis on staff training.

In addition to our companion animal services, Delaware Veterinary Group provides a first class comprehensive service to our farm animal and equine clients, with full in house diagnostic and surgical facilities based at Fulford House, Castle Cary.

ConsultationsOur opening hours are:

For your convenience, consultations are by appointment helping to reduce waiting times.

We recommend your pet is kept securely under control on a lead or in a suitable carrier at all times. Pets that are apprehensive of other animals, or may be affected by a contagious disease, can be left in the car until the veterinary surgeon is ready for your appointment.

Nurse ClinicsOur qualified nurses have a thorough working knowledge of most aspects of preventative healthcare. They are able to carry out a variety of minor procedures such as bandaging, microchipping, nail clipping and suture removal, as well as providing extensive advice on feeding, dental care, parasite treatment and weight control. Some nurse appointments are free of charge.

EmergenciesWe provide a 24 hour emergency service staffed by our own veterinary surgeons and nurses. You can telephone the practice on the usual number anytime day or night. The veterinary surgeon may speak to you directly, or ring back as soon as possible.

Home VisitsWe recognise that while the best facilities for treatment of your pet are in the practice, there are circumstances when home attendance is more appropriate, and we are happy to arrange to visit you on these occasions.

Practice Information

Delaware Healthy Pet SchemeOur Healthy Pet Scheme has been specifically designed for dogs, cats and rabbits to provide the essential routine veterinary care that your pet will require throughout the year. By joining the scheme, discounts are available on many of our routine services, as well as allowing you to budget in convenient and affordable monthly payments.

InsuranceWe recommend that you insure your pets against expense incurred through unexpected illness and accident.

FeesWith no grants or subsidies available it is costly to run a veterinary practice, especially as we reinvest a high proportion of our fees in staff training and equipment. However, it is our aim to provide the highest quality of medical care at extremely competitive prices. Should you have any concerns about costs, please do not hesitate to ask. Estimates can be provided on request.

VaccinationsWe recommend your pet is fully vaccinated against a number of potentially serious diseases. We offer a comprehensive vaccination programme, with a full health check at the time of vaccination. If you should have any concerns regarding vaccination, please feel free to discuss these with a member of the clinical team.

OperationsSurgical procedures are performed every weekday with patients usually admitted by our Veterinary Surgeons or Nursing Team between 8.30am – 9.00am. We do require your consent in writing and any final queries about the procedure can be answered at this time. Your pet will be given a full examination by the surgeon, and given pre-medication to assist them to settle before the operation. Arrangements will also be made for a post-operative discussion later the same day at the time of collection of your pet. Surgical procedures are normally carried out between 9.00am and 2.00pm in our fully equipped operating theatres. Throughout the surgery and recovery, there is always a trained nurse in attendance to monitor the patient.

Please note that cats and dogs should have no solid food after 8.00pm the night before surgery.

PrescriptionsMost medicines are dispensed during consultations and after examination by the veterinary surgeon. Current legislation requires us to carry out regular re-examinations to assess the beneficial effect of the treatment, the suitability of the dosage, and the absence of significant side effects. Most long term conditions will require a veterinary re-examination at 3 - 6 month intervals, at the discretion of the clinician in charge of the case.

Please telephone 24 hours in advance for repeat prescriptions. A written prescription can be prepared on request for which there is a charge, should you wish to acquire the medication elsewhere.

If you would like to join the Delaware Healthy Pet Scheme or would like further information please contact the practice.
