Coober Pedy Hybrid Renewable ProjectSupported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), this projectcombines 4MW wind and 1MW solar generation, a 1MW/500kWhr battery andother integration technologies with the diesel power station as a backup.

This project has delivered lower cost and more stable electricity for CooberPedy at world-leading renewable energy penetration rates.

Project outcomes

Agnew Hybrid Renewable ProjectEDL is currently delivering this ground-breaking project in partnership withGold Fields, with support from ARENA. In an Australian first, the project willutilise wind generation as part of a large hybrid microgrid in the mining sector.

Once completed, this globally significant project will provide the mine with>50% renewable energy over the long term, without compromising powerquality or reliability.

Cannington Power StationInitially commissioned as a diesel power station for South32’s Canningtonmine, the facility was upgraded to a primarily gas-fired power station in 1999.

In 2018, EDL commenced supplying electricity from a 3MW solar farmintegrated with the existing power station.
