Every year, welding posi- tions go unfilled by our current labor force. This employment gap is projected to grow during the next decade according to the bu- reau of labor statistics (www.bls.org). Areas of study include electric welding and flame and plasma cutting. Instructional activ- ities emphasize properties of metals, safety issues, blue print reading, electrical princi- ples, welding symbols, and mechanical draw- ing through projects and exercises that teach students how to weld industrial metals in four basic welding positions. Blue River Career Programs Welding Technology courses each year have steady enrollments. The program has developed and a new section of welding booths, welders, and a hood which was added to the BRCP lab in 2011. Blue River Career Programs (BRCP) Weld-

ing Technology program is designed for

students who are seeking exposure in

SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, OFC,

OFW, and PAC welding. Students in this

program will work with curriculum out-

lined by the American Welding Society and

will have a classroom as well as a lab envi-

ronment.

The course provides an excellent oppor-

tunity for any student planning on pur-

suing a career or degree in any of the

following areas:

Manufacturing Technician

Industry Skilled Trades

Welder

Electrician

Machinist

Engineer

Draftsman

Quality Controller

Welding Technology students may be eli-

gible to receive up to fifteen (15) dual col-

lege credits from Ivy Tech Community Col-

lege over a two year period.

Blue River Career Programs (BRCP) Weld-

ing Technology is designed around cur -

riculum provided by the American Welding

Society (AWS). Embedded within the cur-

riculum are recognized National AWS Cer-

tifications.

Certifications embedded are:

SENSE Entry Level

AWS D1.1 SMAW

Students will need to meet benchmarks de-

termined by BRCP instructor as well as

pass certification in order to receive the the

aforementioned certifications.

Students enrolled in Welding Technology

will also participate in SkillsUSA competi-

tions as well as other school related compe-

titions throughout the year.

Students can receive up to six (6) high

school credits for Welding Technology per

year up to two (2) years. Credits earned

will qualify for the General, Core 40, Core

40 with Academic Honor and/or a Core 40

with Technical Honor diplomas.

The recommended grade level for

Welding Technology is tenth (10),

eleventh (11) or twelfth (12 grade.
