The State Department of Tourism has rolled out robust, responsive and practical strategies contained in the National Tourism Blueprint 2030 to make Kenya the preferred destination. In this strategy, human capital development in tourism takes the central lever. I am therefore delighted to witness another cohort of tourism professionals released into the market. As has been said before, bear in mind that graduation is a series of continuing steps where additional education and life experiences culminate in a life driven by a self-sacrificing desire to contribute to the well-being of those people who are around you. I am confident that they have been equipped with the necessary competencies to serve our beloved Nation, Kenya. With the support of our President, His Excellency, Uhuru Kenyatta, the Ministry has put in place initiatives which have driven remarkable growth in both international and local tourism. We have embarked on a “Stop Ivory Trade” campaign to save the elephant. We have also worked on differentiating our tourist products, seeking to attract high- value tourists and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) business, amongst others, throughout the year. In addition, and in line with the Presidential directive to increase forest cover to 10 percent by 2022, the Ministry plans to plant 1,000,000 trees countrywide within the current Financial Year. This initiative aims to promote biodiversity and consequently safeguard our tourism industry, which is highly vulnerable to climate change. Amongst many others, these strategies aim to ensure that the industry remains vibrant and globally competitive for the benefit of our Nation’s economic development in terms of job creation and consequently growth of the GDP. Finally, I once again congratulate Kenya Utalii College for competently playing their role towards the success of this industry and urge them to keep up the good teamwork spirit. O n behalf of the Kenya Utalii Governing Council, I take this opportunity to commend the 465 students who are graduating in 2019. jor milestone for the College as we continue to passionately imple-ment our mandate of undertaking training and capacity building for the hospitality and tourism sector. Since its inception 50 years ago, the College has trained over 68,000 graduates from around the world. They continue to serve in the local and international hospitality and tourism industry.

I thank our Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Tourism & Wildlife, Hon. Najib Balala, EGH collaborators and all stakeholders for the unwavering support, which has enabled the in-stitution to continually achieve its set goals and objectives.

As the College Management, we are committed to implementing our mandate of training, enhanc-ing research and consultancy ser-vices, as well as of ensuring com-pliance with the requirements of the Quality Management Systems so as to meet the demands of the changing hospitality and tourism industry.

The unrivalled quality of the College is demonstrated by exemplary performance by the graduates of the institution, who dominate the hospitality and tourism industry in Africa. This is no mean feat for Africa’s premier hotel school.

I appeal to the senior alumni in the industry to welcome the graduands to the exciting as well as challenging world of work. I am confident that the quality training you underwent at KUC has prepared you adequately, for demands of the ever dynamic industry.
