Overview

Welland is a city in the Regional Municipality of Niagara in

Southern Ontario, Canada. The city is in the center of

Niagara, within a half-hour residents can travel to Niagara

Falls, Niagara On-The-Lake, St. Catharine's and Port

Colborne. It has been traditionally known as the place where

rails and water meet, referring to the railways from Buffalo to

Toronto and Southwestern Ontario, and the waterways of

Welland Canal and Welland River, which played a great role

in the city’s development.

The city of Welland is home to many facilities that can

accommodate corporate events, meetings of various sizes,

showers, dinners, dances, birthday parties and more. The

Welland Facilities are comprised of 10 different main facilities

that serve as the home to many local organizations and

teams. Each facility offers a different taste of community

involvement.

The newly created Welland International Flatwater Centre is situated on 270

acres of the waterway. Local rowing, canoe kayak, canoe polo, dragon boat,

triathlon and open water swimming clubs utilize the waterway daily for

training.

The WIFC is home to two international standard courses; a 1,000-meter

Albano buoyed course and 2,000-meter Albano buoyed course. The WIFC

has endeavored to become the premiere site for hosting flatwater sport

events, championships and training camps and has been the selected venue

for local, provincial, national and international regattas ever since.

Since opening in 2012, Youngs Sportsplex has not only

elevated the sport scene in the City of Welland, but across the

entire Niagara Region. Youngs Sportsplex is home to the

Welland Soccer Club and other programs such as bubble

soccer and an indoor driving range.

Multi-Sports Complex

The multi-sports complex features:

• 4 indoor tennis courts

• 1 indoor FIFA-regulation sized soccer field (divisible by

3 smaller 100’ x 200’ soccer fields)

• 2 outdoor turf fields

• 3 outdoor grass fields

The Welland Sports Complex is a state of the art baseball

stadium with seating for 3,000 spectators and a ball field that

meets the requirements for major league play. The stadium is

further enhanced by other amenities, which baseball players

and fans would expect, ample parking, and two softball

diamonds, available for professional and amateur play.

Welland Sports Complex served as the home of the former

Welland Pirates of the New York-Penn League, the Welland

AquaDucks of the independent North Atlantic League and the

Niagara Stars of the Canadian Baseball League.

The Merritt Park Amphitheatre is a 750-seat natural

Amphitheatre located at the east bank of the Welland

Recreational Waterway, serving as a permanent seating

facility for local musical and theatrical events. The stone

stepped amphitheater overlooks a floating stage on the water

and the beautiful scenery of the Old Welland Canal.

The Amphitheatre was the venue choice for the opening

ceremony of the 2013 World Junior and Under 23

Canoe/Kayak Championships and hosts a number of concert

series on Friday nights during the summer months. The

Amphitheatre has been used for weddings, recitals, and other

private events.

The City has two arenas, Main Arena and Jack Ballantyne

Memorial Arena (Youth).

Winter Months

The arenas operate with ice mid-August to late April with a full

slate of ice-related organizations including Jr. B Hockey,

Welland Minor Hockey Association and the Niagara Skating

Club. The arena hosts public skating daily from October-Arpil.

Summer Months

The arenas host a number of sports including roller hockey,

minor lacrosse, junior and senior lacrosse, roller hockey, and

ball hockey. Special events such as wrestling and boxing

matches, concerts, circuses, conventions, trade shows, and

community events also take place at this venue.

The Welland Community Complex is one of the City’s finest

facilities available year round. Located on the banks of the

Welland Recreational Waterway, the Wellness Complex is

situated in the heart of Welland. The Complex is fully

accessible and welcomes people of all ages and abilities.

The facility includes office areas, meeting rooms, a modest

library, a billiards room, a woodworking room, a 400-seat

theatre, a therapeutic pool and hot tub, an exercise room, a

computer lab, a multi-purpose activity room, renovated

change rooms and newly renovated wash rooms. The

Wellness Complex offers over 80 different programs.

The Welland Community Wellness Complex encourages

residents to participate in a leisure program of their own

choosing to promote a healthy and happy community oriented

life style.

Welland Tennis Club

Non-profit organization—maintains an excellent tennis

facility and provides affordable tennis to all ages and play

levels

Includes clay courts, regular courts and a club house

Welland Skate Park

The City of Welland plans to build a new skateboard park

that should challenge the beginner to advanced level

Memorial Park

Located in the south-west section of the City, this park is

one of the community parks

Amenities include: picnic areas with pavilions, Olympic

pool, wading pool, structure for children and plenty of off-

road parking

Civic Square

Civic Square offers affordable room rentals for

professional events or meetings

Community Room Capacity: 110 persons seated, 130

standing

Multi-purpose Rooms (108 and 109 East and West): 20-

40 persons

business. The City of Welland has numerous opportunities for

your to engage with the Niagara community in a meaningful
