December 15, 2015 I. Roll Call Roll call was taken to establish quorum (see attendance sheet for documentation). 13/23 of the SAC Composition Board was present at today’s meeting. 56% of the board established the Quorum. II. Approval of Minutes The minutes from November were moved and properly seconded. Motioned by: Sophia Edwards Seconded by: Michelle Franck III. School Improvement Plan The School Improvement Plan was reviewed and approved. Mr. Jordan explained that the school improvement plan (SIP) is now aligned with the district goals for continuous improvement. District Goal 1: Authentic PLC Mr. Jordan explained the PLC process at Welleby this year. He explained that teachers and support staff are in PLC meetings on Wednesday discussing Accountable Talk. This decision was made as a result of training with the district. In this training, it was clear that students could answer “right there” questions, but needed assistance with the inferential questions. Accountable Talk was adopted to aid in this process. This information was shared with the parents. District Goal 2: Imbedded High Quality RTI Process Mr. Jordan explained some of the changes to the RTI process. He explained that the team is meeting every 2 weeks to discuss the

students in the RTI Process. He talked about the next steps if students are progressing and if they are not progressing. The goal is to pinpoint the weakest strand, and provide students with a targeted intervention to address the issue. This was discussed as it relates to SIP. District Goals 3: Optimal External and Internal Relationships Mr. Jordan described this section as the SAC section and the Accreditation Section. He told parents that in this section, they would find all of the artifacts that have to be uploaded for accreditation purposes. He told them that they can also find SAC agendas and meetings to stay caught up on the improvements and changes that are taking place a Welleby. District Goal 4: Scaling Up Best Practices Mr. Jordan talked about things that we are currently doing to ensure that our kids are prepared for the future and are given the best chance to master the Florida Standards. These things include: getting students to use project based learning, connecting what they are learning to the real world, using more authentic formative assessments, conducting data chats with teachers to inform instruction, FSA camps to help prepare students for the FSA, focusing on the fluency standards in math, and using technology to progress monitor, remediate, and enrich students. Parent Engagement After going through the SIP step-by-step, Mr. Jordan stressed to the SAC the importance of having parent engagement. He introduced the Title I Addendum to the parents, and emphasized the need for their input (meaning the parents, teachers, and community) in the successful creation of a plan for improvement. Parental Input on how to increase Parental and Community Involvement included the following:

1. Empowerment and Influence. Empowering each of the parents who currently attend the events by giving them useful information that they can bring back and begin to implement with their students. With this newfound empowerment, parents are encouraged to reach out to a parent or two and invite (influence) them to come out to these meetings.

2. The suggestion was made to allow parents to attend SAC and other meetings through a conference call. (This would help those parents who have busy schedules.)

a. Mr. Jordan explained that parents must physically be present to be counted for SAC Attendance.

3. Other suggestions included offering student incentives for parents who attend and to let the students know that the incentives are in place. Getting the students involved in the conversation can often get parents to do things that they would not ordinarily do.

a. Some incentives include raffles, dolphin dollars, and homework passes.

4. Another suggestion was made to have meetings on Saturdays to give parents another opportunity to attend meetings.

a. This is an option that we would like to try in the spring semester.

5. Questionnaire to be completed in the spring semester to ask parents what is the best meeting day and time.

Sophia Edwards made motion to approve the SIP. Erin Shultz seconded the motion. The SIP was approved. IV. Review of Accreditation This topic was tabled until the next meeting to ensure that district personnel could attend. V. Title I Updates

Homelessness Mr. Cruz talked to the parents about the service that districts offer for families who are homeless. He and Mrs. Haynes explained that homeless could mean someone who is living with a relative, living in a hotel, living in a shelter, living with a friend, and/or living on the street. The main goal was to let parents know that there are services for these families available through Title I. Parents were encouraged to seek these services if needed, or to direct those families who may need it to the appropriate person. Title I Trainings Mr. Cruz let parents know that there are district trainings that are offered for parents in Title I Schools. He talked about one that is taking place on January 30th from 7:30am-3:00pm at the Signature Grand. He told that parents if they are interested in attending the training to please let Mr. Jordan know. Three parents have been paid for but the names need to be submitted. The requirement for parents is to bring the information from this training back to SAC and share it with the other parents who weren’t able to attend. Migrant Worker Families Mr. Cruz discussed that there are programs for families of Migrant Workers available through Title I. He advised the SAC that Migrant Workers could be those who relocate during different seasons. He encouraged parents to get those who made benefit from these services to seek them out. VI. Partner Updates Mrs. Pacheco was happy to inform us that we have a new Partner (Wendy’s). She said that a family night will be here soon and encourages parents to look out for the information. VII. Principal Updates Accountability Funds Mrs. Haynes explained that there are $8000 available for school improvement and that we would like to use the funds to help service

our FSA Academy in the spring. The academy would be used to target our “bubble” kids and help them to get prepared for the FSA that will be given in the spring. Michelle Frank motioned that we allow the use of Accountability Funds to service the FSA Academy. Kassandra Osmon seconded the motion. The motion passed to allow the use of accountability funds for the FSA Academy. SMART Bond Mrs. Haynes gave an update on the SMART bond.
