Urban Form WRS based on considerable research on urban

form and economic development

Regional Policy Statement (RPS) reinforces much of the urban form parts of WRS

RPS directs councils to include policies relating to centre development, integrating land use and transport, rural development, intensification & urban design

• Understanding economic geography is the key

• Policies focus on need for integration of land use & transport – but we don’t have the tools to effectively achieve this

• Lot of research done around NZ but limited sharing or working together
