WELSH MINES PRESERVATION TRUST HERITAGE WEEKEND
24/25/26 MAY 2014
Saturday (24 May). Meet Van Village Hall 10.30am. At 11.00am we will be hosting a walk around the site of the Van Mines, the walk will be led by Nigel Chapman the author of the book “The Van Mines”. The walk will last about 4-5 hours. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing, and bring a packed lunch.
On the Saturday evening, starting 7.30pm we will be presenting an evening of talks and slides about the mine. Speakers will include, Nigel Chapman and Prof. David James who will give a talk about the geology of the area.
On Sunday (25th) and Monday (26th) 10.30am – 4.30pm the Trust will be undertaking vegetation and sapling clearance around the remaining features of the mine. The few features that are still visible after the landscaping that took place in the 1990’s, are now becoming overgrown.
The events over the weekend are open to anyone who wishes to attend; local people, visitors and mining enthusiasts.
