WEJTAP™ ANDTEST DATAWEJTAP™ connectors have been subjectedto extensive tests simulating the most severeservice and weather conditions. In addition, the WEJTAP™ system meets or exceeds theindustry standards of ANSI C119.4 Class 3,NEMA CCS 1973 Class A 500 Heat Cycles.
As with all BURNDY connectors, the WEJ-TAP™ has been designed to operate coolerthan the attached conductors. The WEJ-TAP™ connectors have also been subjectedto the ASTM B117-73 Salt Spray Test. Theresults are shown to the right.
WEJTAP™
Spring-bodies are color-coded and thewedges are marked with nominal conductorrun and tap ranges. WEJTAP™ connectorpackages are labeled with a variety of com-mon conductors with their nominal ranges.
• WEJTAP™ connector wedges are markedwith nominal ACSR, Aluminum and Copperconcentric standard conductors.
• Red WEJTAP™ connector range Run 8-1/0Tap 8-2
• Blue WEJTAP™ connector range Run2-300 Tap 6-300
• Yellow WEJTAP™ connector range Run266.8-1590 Tap 6-1590
All WEJTAP™ wedges contain a clearlydefined chamfer on the large end of the runconductor groove to identify the "large run"groove. Installers will appreciate the conve-nience of visual or hand identification forcorrect wedge positioning.
WEJTAP™ wedges are driven between therun and tap conductors and activate thespring characteristics of the "C" shaped body. This action maintains contact pressure evenwhen the connection is subjected to severeclimatic and electrical conditions.

BURNDY WEJTAP™
CONNECTION SYSTEM
BURNDY, a leading manufacturer of qualityelectrical connectors for over 70 years, intro-duces the WEJTAP™ SYSTEM, a systemthat adds further dimension to the existingBurndy group of proven, reliable connectionsystems.
WEJTAP™ COMPONENTS are designed toprovide a reliable system connection. Thesystem consists of WEJTAP™ connectors, installation tools (including a variety of hotlineand lineman accessories) and a uniquepower-booster.
WEJTAP™ CONNECTORS use an alu-minum alloy wedge that is power-drivenbetween the run and the tap cables lockingthem into a "C" shaped tempered aluminumalloy spring-body. The spring-body maintainsconsistent pressure throughout the life of theconnection to ensure reliability during severeelectrical and climatic conditions. Thewedge's wiping action combined with factoryinstalled PENETROX® PENA 13 providessuperior contact integrity. The wedge is auto-matically locked onto the spring-body by askiving action produced by a lance at the for-ward end of the WEJTAP™ installation tool.
THE WEJTAP™ TOOL is a one-piece assem-bly that consists of a head and power unit. Two color-coded interchangeable headsaccept all WEJTAP™ connectors and STIR-RUPS®. The design of the tool recognizesthe need for simplicity and speed of operationas well as outstanding safety features suchas automatic gas release vented away fromthe operator, fast simple breech loading andfast advance when engaging the connectorassembly. No loose parts to drop or misplaceand a booster ejection system that providesfurther safety to the operator. Fewer simplifiedhotline devices and handy lineman acces-sories complete an outstanding tool package.
THE WEJTAP™ POWER-BOOSTERPatented is a self-contained device that pro-vides the force necessary to drive the wedgeinto direct contact with the conductors. Thebooster is activated only when properly posi-tioned in the tool assembly. A power cell in thebooster is recessed to guard against prema-ture discharge. The tool/booster system isdesigned to activate and deactivate thebooster automatically should the operatordecide to remove the tool from a connectorprior to completing the installation. The deac-tivated booster may be safely removed fromthe tool.
Features and Benefits
• Large conductor chamfer on endsof wedge.0 Instant hand or visual identification of
large run grooves. Ensures correctwedge orientation.
• Color-coded WEJTAP connectorand booster packaged together.0 Easy selection by installer.
• Factory coated grooves withPENETROX® PENA 13.0 Maintains low contact resistance,
assists in protection against climaticconditions and is compatible withcommon insulations.
• One-piece tool.0 No project delays due to dropped or
lost parts.• Fewer and improved hotstick accessories
0 Simplifies hotline installation andsaves time.
• Contained booster ejection system.0 Safe for operator guards against the
booster being ejected in direction ofthe installer.
• Automatic gas release vented awayfrom operator.0 Eliminates manual gas venting and
improves safety.• Simplified loading.
0 Speeds installation—no threads—justdepress safety bar, twist and pullopen—load—push and twist to closeprior to applying connector.
• Acme-type threads.0 Provides smooth, fast engagement of
tool and connector-saves installer's time.
