Beatles ForeverMonday, June 25 at 7 PMMain Library Meeting Room

Beatles Forever is a sensational, sing-a-long show featuring 28 Beatles songs performed by a live band, along with some storytelling from Notable Michigan author M.L. Liebler who tells about growing up with the Beatles from the early ’60's until they first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. Laugh, sing some old favorites and party with the Beatles–well, sort of…No registration is required

Create amazing sounds with code using a Raspberry Pi computer and a coding language called Sonic Pi. This easy-to-learn programming language lets you create music in various genres. Compose set pieces or modify songs by changing the code. No computer coding experience is needed. No registration is required.

Join throughout the summer, come to Summer Reading programs and find plenty to read and enjoy. Read 12 hours and receive a complimentary $5 gift certificate to the Friendshop, the Friends of the Library bookstore and gift shop. You can also participate in the Summer Challenge and complete activities to earn points that could win you prizes on our Leaderboard or in our raffle.

Sargent's Women: Four Lives Behind the Canvas by Donna M. Lucey Tuesday, June 5 at 10 AM Main Library Meeting Room

Learn about the extraordinary lives of four women painted by the portraitist John Singer Sargent.Presenter Karen Imarisio will also explore other Sargent portraits of women, each with amazing stories behind the face and name. No registration is required.

This year’s film series features some of presenter Tara Hayes’ favorite foreign language films, along with analysis and discussion.

Exploring Japanese MusicWednesday, July 18 at 7 PM Main Library Meeting Room What is Japanese music and why does it sound the ways that it does? Wayne State University ethnomusicologist, composer and dancer Dr. K. Natasha Foreman will help us explore a variety of music from Japan (both historical and contemporary). Learn about music from the Imperial court gagaku, stately Noh theater, the avant-garde origins of the Kabuki theater, geisha performance traditions, composer Joe Hisaishi’s ephemeral film scores for Studio Ghibli (including the iconic films of Nausicaa and Totoro ) and the role of silence and empty space (ma 間) in the Japanese musical. No registration is required.

These three ladies are veterans of the contra dance world and the Chicago and Indianapo-lis music scenes. They incorporate fiddle, clarinet, accordion, piano, oud, percussion and more.

Each Music@Main performance is held in the Main Library Meeting Room. Seating is limited and opens a half hour before a performance. No registration is required. Music@Main is organized and funded by the Friends of the West Bloomfield Township Public Library.
