Certificates and Awards

2020-2021

Ontario Secondary School Diplomas

Ontario Scholar: denoted with an *, these students have achieved an average of at least 80% in

six Grade 12 courses.

Honours Graduates: denoted in bold, these students have achieved an average of at least 75%

in a minimum of six courses during their graduating year.

Specialist High Skills Major: These students have focused on a career path that matches their skills

and interests while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Students receive the SHSM seal on their diploma when they:

●complete a specific bundle of 8-10 courses in the student's selected field

●earn industry certifications including first aid and CPR qualifications

●gain important skills on the job through cooperative education placements

Arts Nipissing Certificate: This certificate is granted to graduating students that have achieved a

minimum of SEVEN Arts Nipissing credits, including FOUR senior major/focus credits with an

average of 70% or greater.

STEAM Certificate: STEAM is a cross-curricular and cross-panel program consisting of: Science,

Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics education. The program has a focus on project-

based learning, and a variety of computer-based technologies are used. Recipients have

completed specialized Grade 9 & 10 programming, in addition to appropriate university level

courses.

Near North Sports Certificate: This certificate is granted to graduating students that have

completed 60 hours of community service (supporting school/community-based sports and

recreation programs), 200 hours of team participation, Student Athlete Portfolio, Grade 12

Program Culmination: “Personal Journey of a Student Athlete”, and all course requirements

French Immersion Certificate: This certificate is awarded to graduating students who have

completed 10 credits in French.
