See www. moultrieswapmeet.com The weather is finally cooling off a bit and our various fall car events should be wonderful. The leaves may be changing soon also and that makes for a great ride in the country. Tyus Road here I come. Those of us who attended the Lowell Opry Cruise-In had a very good time there as usual. Thanks go out to Bill Hearnburg for organizing the event again this year. It is becoming a club tradition. We had a good showing of our club folks and their cars at the Southwire show the following Saturday and even got a friend to volunteer to take a group photo with yours truly in it for a change. It is always gratifying to see our club members taking part in these local opportunities for fun and fellowship, as well as to share their nice rides with the public. Personally, I wish I could break away for a regional or national tour but that is not in the cards. We will be satisfied for now to attend the local car shows and cruise nights and visit with friends and interested on-lookers. Please help welcome our new club members, Sherry and Paul Beggs of Douglasville. They have officially joined the national AACA as well as our West Georgia Region, and we are delighted to have them with us. They own a beautiful 1963 Ivory Porsche 356 which they drove to Lowell for our picnic and concert. Previously Paul had attended our tour to VMR and enjoyed seeing Ray Morgan again and the current inventory. We hope to see Sherry and Paul at some of our monthly local region meetings here in Carrollton as well as future car shows, tours, and socials. September 26 th is the giant car show down in Senoia. Get there around 8 or 9 am if you want to park on the street; otherwise they will park you in a nearby overflow lot, which is still okay. October 1 st is our next club meeting at 6:30 pm at American Pie on Maple Street in Carrollton. October 3 rd is the big annual car show sponsored by our sister region of AACA down in LaGrange, the Georgia-Alabama region. Let’s support them in big numbers this year as they come up to Car- rollton each June to support our show. Their flyer is on our website. October 17 th is the annual Golden City Cruisers judged car show at The Mill amphitheater in down- town Villa Rica. It’s always a great show with plenty going on, so let’s support our friends right up the road. Details on our website and, of course, theirs too. Go to http://www.goldencitycruisers.com October 24 th is our Three Club Picnic hosted by LaGrange AACA Club 10:30 to 3:00 @ Hilyer Baptist Church, 88 Lower Big Springs Rd., LaGrange, Ga. Bring a dish to pass. Take a look at the sidebar in this issue of The Greasy Rag, as well as the Coming Events section of our website, to see what else might be coming up further on down the road. Hope to see many of our gang at these upcoming events. Stay healthy and soak in the beauty of our 2015 autumn. Enjoy the Ride! Glenn PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE • OCTOBER 2015

The Third, but not necessarily annual, Fun with Dick and Jane Tour would have made its namesake, the Fun with Dick and Jane children's books proud. Lots of interesting history was packed into this two day tour. The Tour got off to a good start on Friday as many of the attendees met in Social Circle, Georgia for lunch at the famous Blue Willow Inn. Southern food lovers feasted on fried chicken, pork chops, steak and gravy accompanied by every Southern cooked veg-etable you could imagine from fried green tomatoes, tomatoes and okra, field peas and smashed potatoes to coconut cake, peach cobbler and banana pudding, After lunch these tourers met up with the other attendees at the Callaway Plantation in Washington, Georgia. A personal tour conducted by the Wilkes County Chamber of Commerce made it informative and enjoyable. The main house built in 1869 still contains its original furnishings and has never been

modernized other than preservation additions like climate control and security system. The property also has a variety of other period buildings including a one-room school house complete with pot belly stove and chalkboard paint on the plank walls. In the afternoon, all 21 Model As arrived in down-town Washington. The host hotel was the historic Fitzpatrick Hotel on the Square in Washington. It was built in 1898 and sat empty and derelict for nearly 50 years before it was lovingly restored to its earlier splendor 10 years ago by historic preservationists from Athens, Georgia. The restoration was done with period furnishings and it looked like a picture postcard from 1898. Overflow was handled at a nearby bed and breakfast across the Square. The opening banquet was held Friday evening in the Hotel and was super yummy. Driver introductions were made and goodie bags handed out. A of show hands indicated that there were many first time attendees to the Fun with Dick

October Birthdays

and Jane Tour. After a restful night of sleep in this quaint little town, Saturday morning rolled around and we headed off to Robert Toombs' house and the Wilkes-Washing-ton County historical Center. The Toombs House was built in 1797 and is Federal and Greek Revival archi-tecture. A special guest joined us on the Tour. Ray Chandler, Civil War expert and author, came along for the ride and shared his knowledge of the area as well as the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. We motored on to the Kettle Creek Revolution-ary War battlefield site. We learned that more battles were fought in the South than the North during our war of independence. Ray explained not only the significance of this Battle but also many details not explained on the signage at the park. Next stop was Watson Mill Creek state park. A really tasty box lunch was served. It was hard to leave this action for several reason. One was the fact that it has an interesting history and a beautiful river-side picnic area with the longest covered bridge still

in existence in Georgia. The the other factor was the Model A breakdowns. David and Caroline Miller broke a rear radius rod on the way out of the bridge. Jim and Jackie Johnston had their starter die, and Carl and Elizabeth Henry had a flat tire. Once all the issues were resolved we all headed off to Alexander Stephens historic home for another bit of history. Once back at the Hotel and some cool down time we had a closing banquet. A prime rib dinner was served across the Square at The Jockey Club Restau-rant. Perhaps a similar trip is in the works for the AACA in 2016? A "Fun With Glenn & Debbie" Tour? Any takers?

The Robert Toombs House is an historic museum with many original furnishings. The second floor is currently under renovation and expected to open to the public in the spring. The original part of the house dates back to 1767.
