DUSTY REEDS, DIRECTOR
is known to San Jose State University Theatre audiences as a woman of many talents. She is an
accomplished director and scenic designer, who, in addition to her faculty position at SJSU, devotes
her time and energy to The Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan, and the Diamond Circle Theatre in
Durango, Colorado. Each year she returns to New York and London to catch up on innovative
works in the theatre. As an actor, Reeds has appeared at The Barn Theatre as Big Mama in Cat on a
Hot Tin Roof, Miss Hannigan in Annie and Blanche in Brighton Beach Memoirs. Her most recent
directorial achievements are Oklahoma at The Barn Theatre starring Tom Wopat, and at SJSU, Best
Little Whorehouse in Texas and Camelot. She has designed shows for the San Jose Opera, Diamond
Circle Theatre in Durango, Actor's Theatre in Louisville, the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York
and the Provincetown Playhouse in New England. Reeds has a degree in art from Colorado College and a master's degree from
Purdue. She will be teaching in Bath, England this spring with the SJSU semester abroad program.
MINA ZENOR GARMAN, CHOREOGRAPHER
received her B.F.A. from Drake University and M.A. from Bowling Green State University in
Theatre. She has studied with Titania Doukadouvsky, Conservatory of Music in Kansas City,
Missouri , Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and Luigi Studio in New York City.
Professor Garman has taught Dance in the Theatre Arts Department for many years and served as
Chairman for the department for four years. Before corning to SJSU, she taught Dance in various
Universities in Ohio, Washington and Colorado. She has been recognized in the "World Who's
Who of Women in Education."
As a choreographer for Musical Theatre, she has choreographed over 60 musical productions, with
such theatres as Edgewater Beach Playhouse, Chicago; Imperial Players, Diamond Theatre and
Denver Light Opera in Colorado; Black Hills Playouse, South Dakota; and Wagon Wheel Playhouse in Indiana. In the Bay
Area, she has choreographed in Palo Alto, Menlo Park Community Theatre and San Jose Civic Light Opera. In 1970 and
1971, she received CLO Best Choreographer Award and the 1975 Inner City Circle Award for Outstanding Achievement in
Choreography.
Garn1an has recently been awarded the Kennedy Center Medallion from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts,
Washington, D.C. for her work as former Chairman of the California Alliance for Arts Education.
CATHLEEN EDWARDS, COSTUME DESIGNER
is no stranger to San Jose, having designed 42nd Street, Oklahoma, Evita, the critically acclaimed Follies and more for San
Jose Civic Light Opera. Her work has been seen as far away as New York (Hard Tzmes at the 1987 Joyce Festival) and Alaska
(Noises Off, All My Sons at Alaska Repertory Theatre). She has also designed a number of productions at the American
Conservatory Theatre (most recently The Immigrant), Berkeley Repertory and Berkeley Shakespeare. In addition to her theatre
and opera work, she has done numerous commercial, industrial and film projects.
DWIGHT CANNON, MUSICAL DIRECTOR and CONDUCI'OR
has dedicated interersts in avant-garde and improvised music of all kinds, and has recognized successes as conductor of musical
productions with San Jose Civic Light Opera and SJSU. Cannon, professor of Music at SJSU and Director of Jazz Studies, is
currently developing "New World Music", a program where students learn more about improvising and performing impro
vised music.
JANIE SCOOT, VOCAL DIRECTOR
began her professional career as a performer and choreographer during her graduate study at SJSU. After receiving a BS in
Dance and MAin Theatre, she choreographed and performed in Michigan and Colorado, then on national and international
tours of A Chorus Line, then to Broadway. Scott was seen as Wendy opposite Sandy Duncan in the Broadway production of
Peter Pan and was assistant choreographer for the Broadway production of Merrily ~ Roll Along, working with Stephen
Sondheim and Harold Prince. She was last seen performing in the LA Company of Cats, and has worked with such award
winning directors and choreographers as Michael Bennett, Ron Field, Larry Fuller, and Trevor Nunn. Scott has taught Musical
Theatre workshops and techniques in New York, Chicago and LA. She is currently on the Theatre Arts, Dance and Music
faculty at SJSU.
