Based on the 1954 Classic Film, White Christmas is the story of two successful showmen who join forces to help out their old army commander. Along the way, they find, lose, and find romance, have plenty of laughs, and demonstrate what it means to be loyal. The score is filled with favorites “I Love A Piano,” “Sisters,” “Blue Skies,” “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm,” and the famous title song.

The morning after he composed the song “White Christmas,” Berlin told his secretary, “Grab your pen and take down this song. I just wrote the best song I’ve ever written — heck, I just wrote the best song that anybody’s ever written!” Supposedly, Berlin wrote the song sitting poolside at the Arizona Biltmore. The original version satirized a citizen of Los Angeles who longs for snow and traditional yuletide delights in the face of palm trees and orange groves. Berlin modified the verse but kept the now classic chorus. The song was first used in the 1942 Bing Crosby film Holiday Inn. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The 1954 film, White Christmas, was conceived as a reunion film for Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire who had previously appeared in the Irving Berlin musical films Holiday Inn and Blue Skies. When Astaire read the script, however, he turned the role down. The role of Phil was then offered to Donald O’Connor, who also turned it down. Popular comedian Danny Kaye was then cast. As for the lovely Haynes Sisters in the movie, all of Vera Ellen’s (Judy) singing in the film is dubbed, mostly by uncredited Trudy Stevens. In “Sisters,” Rosemary Clooney (Betty) sings both parts. The considerable choreography in the film was created by uncredited Bob Fosse. David Ives (All in the Timing, Wonderful Town) penned the book to the new White Christmas musical. Director Walter Bobbie squeezed the production in before the revival of

ABoUT “whITE ChRISTMAS”Sweet Charity. The Director of our current production, Randy Skinner, (who also directed/choreographed our 42nd Street) was Choreographer. The original production starred Brian D’Arcy James, Anastasia Barzee, Meredith Patterson, and Jeffrey Denman.

White Christmas played limited engagements on Broadway at the Marquis Theatre from November 14, 2008 - January 4, 2009 and again from November 13, 2009 - January 3, 2010. It received two 2009 Tony Award nominations for Best Choreography (Randy Skinner) and Best Orchestrations (Larry Blank). 2009 Drama Desk Award nominations for Outstanding Director of a Musical, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Orchestrations, Outstanding Set Design of a Musical, Outstanding Costume Design and Outstanding Sound Design.

Irving Berlin was born Israel Baline in 1888 some-where in Byelorussia. His family immigrated to New York City in 1893 where Berlin went to work as a street busker and singing waiter. In his 101 years, Irving Berlin wrote over 1,000 songs. His most famous compositions include “Cheek to Cheek,” “Easter Parade,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “Steppin’ Out with My Baby,” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business.” 1946’s Annie Get Your Gun was the most successful of his non-revue musicals. Among his Hollywood movie musicals are Top Hat, Follow the Fleet, On the Avenue, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Holiday Inn, Blue Skies, Easter Parade, White Christmas, and There’s No Business Like Show Business. A private in WWI, Berlin penned “God Bless America” and donated millions in royalties to Army Emergency Relief among other orga-nizations. His patriotism was recognized by President Truman (1945 Army’s Medal of Merit), President Eisenhower (1955 Congressional Gold Medal) and President Ford (1977 Freedom Medal).

BOB FUNKING/BILL STUTLER (Owners/ Executive Producers) July 9, 2013 marked the 39th Anniversary for the Westchester Broadway Theatre and the 23rd Anniversary in this spe-cifically designed, state of the art theatre. Bill and Bob, 2004 inductees into the “Westchester County Business Hall of Fame,” pioneered the Dinner Theatre concept in Westchester when they opened An Evening Dinner Theatre on July 9, 1974. Having designed and built An Evening from the ground up as a theatre that serves din-ner and lunch, they established their operation as a cultural mainstay in the tri-state area. The Westchester Broadway Theatre is the only year round theatre in Westchester where Broadway performers, directors and designers gather to create the best in Musical Theatre. (They have produced more shows than most Broadway producers. Irving Berlin’s White Christmas is our 182nd Mainstage Production.) The Westchester Broadway Theatre is the longest running, 52 week a year Equity theatre in the State of New York. Each show is produced exclusive-ly for the theatre and each is approached in the same manner as Broadway Productions: casting Broadway performers at auditions in New York City, and hiring the creative staff (Directors, Choreographers, Musical Directors, Set, Costume and Lighting Designers). On the dark nights of the musicals, Bill and Bob have presented over 900 Monday and Tuesday night specials and, in 1997, inaugurated the Gold Star Series of Concerts presenting Jackie Mason to a sold-out house. Other great performers in the Gold Star series have been Tom Jones, George Carlin, Paul Anka, Wayne Newton, and Harry Belafonte. With the continued support of the
