1 Q2 (April-June) 2010 CAPE TOWN & WESTERN CAPE DESTINATION PERFORMANCE South African Tourism (SAT) has released their Q2 2010 Report. According to this report, the Western Cape experienced a 41.2% growth with 374,305 tourist arrivals in Q2 2010. There has also been an increase in the Total Foreign Direct Spend (43.6%) where the province achieved R5.6 billion. SAT started a new series of quarterly reports, thus the Destination Performance report deals with tourist arrivals rather than international arrivals. Tourist arrivals (definitions below) exclude day visitors and should therefore not be confused with international arrivals. Definitions International/foreign arrivals: Any person travelling to a place other than that of his/her environment for less than 12 months and whose main purpose of the trip is other than the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited. The closest possible approximation to this definition, based on the historic format issued by Statssa, is all foreign arrivals less “workers” and “contract workers”. Tourist arrivals: Any visitor travelling to a place other than that of his/her own environment for more than one night, but less than 12 months and whose main purpose of the trip is other than the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited.

South African Tourism (SAT) has released their Q2 2010 Report. According to this report, the Western

SAT started a new series of quarterly reports, thus the Destination Performance report deals with tourist

arrivals rather than international arrivals. Tourist arrivals (definitions below) exclude day visitors and
