Dear Tiger Families, Happy Spring! After such a tough winter, we are excited to get back on track with our students. We are looking forward to seeing you at our Student-Led conferences and Report Card pick-up on April 9 from 3:20-7:00 (floating) so that your child can share their academic progress this year. Please RSVP so that we can get an accurate count for dinner. Following the student-led conference if you would like to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher concerning your child’s academic progress, please leave your contact information on the sign-in sheet in the classroom. Students are invited to attend Study Hall or Extended Learning on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support their learning. Please check the Parent Assist Website to check grades or attendance. As we approach the End-Of-Year testing season, please encourage your student to set good habits by getting plenty of rest by going to bed at a consistent time and turning off all technology at bedtime. Also encourage them to eat a good breakfast. If at all possible try to schedule outside appointments so as not to disrupt your student’s instructional time and, if possible, leave messages and items that your student may have forgotten with office staff rather than calling your student out of class as classroom participation is crucial to success. Thank you for partnering with us! With Tiger PRIDE, Patrice W. Brown Principal

***Rising 7th Grade Students*** All rising 7th grade students need the Tdap Booster and the MCV4 (Meningococcal)
immunizations before the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. Spring Break is a good time to make arrangements and get those immunizations. Please provide the
office with proof of immunization for your child’s records.

School Attendance and Illness
Regular school attendance is important to the academic success of all students. However, if your child has a fever, is experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, he/she cannot attend
school. Your child will need to be picked up if this occurs at school and remain home until fever free for 24 hours and the vomiting and diarrhea has subsided.
Students are successful when they are rested and well!
Visitation Policy It is our goal to accommodate parents in a way that will not disrupt teaching and learning and will permit us to maintain a safe and orderly school. Therefore, we
require that parents/guardians/visitors schedule appointments through the Administration 24 hours in advance. Visitors will not be allowed to enter the
classrooms without an appointment and/or approval from an administrator. For lunch visits with your students prior scheduling is not required. Please remember that all
visitors are required to sign in at the front desk and receive a Visitor’s badge that you are required to wear at all times during your visit.
Student Led Conferences
Student Led Conferences and Report Card pick-up will be held Tuesday, April 9,
3:20-7:00. An invitation and dinner reservation will be sent home April 2 and must be returned by April 5. Your student will choose several examples of her/her work to show you and will practice leading a conference with you. Afterward you will receive your student’s report card. This is an important part of your student’s
academic year. Please be supportive and make every effort to attend. If you wish to stay for dinner, Chick-Fil-A will be available for those who return the
reservation. Following the Student Led Conference if you feel that you need to set up a
conference with your child’s teacher a sign in form will be provided for you to request a conference.
It is always important for you to attend events where WGMS staff can share with you regarding your students’ academics. However, on April 9 it is especially
important because we have important information to share with you about the OneCard, the new Guilford County Schools Student Identification and Access Card.
Please read the article on page 6-8 of this newsletter
CONTACTING YOUR STUDENT
If you call during the school day to speak with your
student we will be happy to have your student call you at
the next class change. If you need to speak with your
student on an emergency basis, please state that when
you call. Our goal is to preserve the instructional time for all students with
minimal interruption to the class.
If you wish to deliver something to your student we ask that you leave the item with the office staff and it will be delivered to your
student at the class change to minimize the interruptions in
the instructional time.

SAVE THE DATE
End of Year
There will be several activities and celebrations as we move closer to the last day of school. As soon as we have dates, times, and details we will publish that in our
newsletter, post it on our website and continue to inform you through ConnectEd calls. If you are not receiving your ConnectEd calls please check with the front office at 336-
316-5833 to make sure we have your correct contact information. Please make sure your student has returned all Media items and paid all outstanding fees
so that they may participate fully in end of year activities. It is very important to keep your address and contact information updated. Provide the office with a current power/water/gas/oil bill or lease agreement. For 8th grade students having current addresses on records is crucial in order for us to be able to
forward students’ cumulative records to the correct high school setting for the 2019-2020 school year.

TIGER LADIES The WGMS Tiger Ladies met Mar. 28 to discuss personal business plans, a task that the Tiger Ladies had been given at the last meeting. A “special guest” surprise the members. Aaliyah Raleigh, Tiger Lady Member and
owner of her own catering business, Beloved Catering, presented to the group and demonstrated her cooking skills. Sampling some of Aaliyah’s specialties was a real treat!
