No Runners On Base

UIC: Move out on all batted balls; Ground Ball (GB)- responsible for overthrow; stay with ball; Fly Ball (FB)- watch batter-runner touch first if U1 goes out; take runner into second on double or third on triple; catch-no catch on all fly balls on left side of infield, to pitcher, catcher and first baseman between home and first; catch-no catch on fly balls from center field to left field, to right field if U1 comes in; fair-foul on all batted balls down third base line to foul pole; on batted balls that are played on or come to rest between home and first.

No Runners On Base

U1: GB- Move to make all calls at first on plays in the infield; on base hits, come into infield and pivot to watch batter-runner touch first and be ready to move to take runner into second on double or third on triple; FB- catch-no catch, fair-foul calls down the right field line; be ready to take the play at home; communicate on balls in trouble zones; “I've got the ball!” will let your partner know to take the runner.

Runner On First Base Only

UIC: Signal potential movement to partner; GB- fair/foul down both lines; Move out on all batted balls; be ready to rule on force play slide at second; be ready to move to cover play at third if needed; communicate “I'm at third” if play arises; on base hit take runner into third, unless ball was hit down right field line; return to home in all cases; follow bunts down the lines; FB- fair/foul, catch/no catch, down the lines and to pitcher or catcher.

Runner On First Base Only

U1 (B position): Ready position- hands on knees; Be alert for pick-off attempt at first; pivot to get both eyes on the play; be alert for balk; on steal, let the ball turn you; rundown; GB- call the first play in the infield; on double plays, call force at second, then move and turn to take play at first; UIC has interference at second; on base hits, watch runners touch bases; be ready to move to second or first if play is made; UIC has third; on two out time plays, make call so that partner can hear; FB- catch/no catch in middle of infield and between left and right fielder; be alert for possible tag by runner; be alert for play at first on line drives; help partner on check swings, foul balls off batter, foul tips not caught by catcher.

Runner On Second Base Only

UIC: Signal potential movement to partner; GB- Foul/fair down both lines; follow bunts down the lines; touch at third; on base hit, get touch at third, set up for play at home; FB- Foul/fair, catch/no catch on balls hit to P or C and down both lines.

U1 (C position): Be alert for pick-off attempt at second by P or C; balk; attempted steal of third; rundown; GB- stay with the ball and let the throw take you to the play – don't anticipate; if play is to first, move toward base, get set, make the call, then move back for possible play at second or third; on base hits watch the batter-runner touch first and second; on two out time plays, make call so that partner can hear; FB- catch/no catch on balls in the infield and between the outfielders; move to line up tag after catch; take runner into third; on no tag plays and line drives be alert for play at second.

Runner On Third Base Only

UIC: Signal potential movement to partner; all plays at home; be alert for squeeze or steal at home; make sure P's delivery is legal; call pitch, then play; GB- fair/foul, catch/no catch down both lines and to P and C; line up tag of runner on caught fly ball; on base hits, watch touch at home.

U1 (C position) : Be alert for pick-off attempt at third by P or C; balks; rundown; GB- stay with the ball and let the throw take you to the play – don't anticipate; on base hits watch the batter-runner touch first and second; on two out time plays, make call so that partner can hear; FB- catch/no catch on balls in the infield and between the outfielders; on no tag play and line drives, be alert for play at third.

UIC: Signal potential infield fly to partner; signal other potential movement; GB/FB- fair/foul, catch/no catch down the lines and by P and C; observe tag of R2 on fly balls; move out to rule on force play slide at second; on base hit, watch touch at third by R1; be ready for play at home; on extra base hit, watch R1 touch home, then move to third for play on R2; on caught fly ball, take R1 into third, unless fly ball down RF line.
