Western RiverinaIn the Western Riverina region lies the townships of Deniliquin and Hay, popular for their own unique attractions.

DENILIQUINThe regional centre of the vast Riverine plain, Deniliquin is an oasis on the edge of the outback. The Backroads Trail, located just south of Deniliquin, weaves together themes of heritage, environment, food, wine and culture in an informed and user-friendly way. A delightful park, the Waring Gardens is an ideal setting for picnics. Further along the main street, a lagoon off the Edward River runs adjacent to the Island Sanctuary. You can walk from the Sanctuary to McLean Beach where there is an area ideal for swimming. Alternatively, rent a pontoon boat for a magical day on the river.

HAYSituated on the picturesque Murrumbidgee River, Hay boasts a rich history. The Dunera Museum at the Hay Railway Station tells the extraordinary stories of prisoners of war during World War II. Bishop’s Lodge is a beautiful architecturally dynamic home, surrounded by a heritage garden with remarkable historic roses. The Goal Museum has a fascinating history and holds a wealth of memorabilia celebrating the Australian way of life. Shear Outback offers visitors a great insight into the Australian shearing industry and rural life on the land.
