ACCURATE MEMBERSHIP RECORD: HOW?
Some years ago, the Secretariat of the General Conference came up with an idea of Church
Membership Audit to enable the church get the actual membership of the worshipers and
thereby plan for proper nurturing. If we can be auditing our finances as a church, more attention
should be paid to the souls that bring in the money. Some of the church entities within the
Western Nigeria Union Conference have done membership audit twice within this
quinquennium.
God has blessed His church with wisdom to come up with a better and more reliable way of
keeping accurate record of church membership by the use of software called ACMS (Adventist
Church Membership System). It settles the challenge of double counting of membership. In
addition, departmental heads of local churches can use ACMS for submission of their reports to
the conference and from there to the next higher organization. ACMS enables a local church
pastor to plan effectively for the members because he would know how many members in his
local church, their age bracket and gender. The same goes to the conference and the union up to
the General Conference.

We thank the Secretariat of WAD (West-Central Africa Division) under the able leadership of
Pastor Dr Kingsley Anonaba who came to our Union to train all the Executive Secretaries and the
Administrative Secretaries on how to use ACMS. Special thanks to Pastor Selom Sessou and
Elder Rene Kamonou who served as facilitators during the training in July 18-22, 2018 at the
Union Headquarters, Maryland, Lagos. Since then the Executive Secretaries and their
Administrative Secretaries have been working tirelessly to ensure that their various entities are
ACMS compliance. As we may know, one of the major challenges is poor internet connection in
most areas of our territory.
The table below shows the progress made so far. It is our target, by the grace of God, to enter
every baptized member into ACMS before the end of year 2019.

Since the clergy cannot bear the burden of the work of the ministry alone, there calls for synergy
between the clergy and the laity. The advice of Jethro to Moses (Exodus 18) serves as a divine
guidance for church administration and leadership. Elder's work is to complement that of a
pastor and not to compete with it
Total Member Involvement (TMI) is the General Conference initiative that calls on every
member of the church segment – men, women, youth, and children – to participate in the
mission of Jesus Christ. Every member of the church is a witness, “You are my witness,” says the
Lord (Isaiah 43:10). We are to make use of every available method, especially the social media,
for effective propagation of the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ.
SECRETARIAT NURTURE AND EVALUATION
The General Conference Secretariat conducted an evaluation and nurture exercise at the
WNUC Secretariat from January 30, 2018 to February 1, 2018. The Team was led by Pastor John
Thomas, GC Associate Secretary. Other members of the team are Pastor Hensley Moorooven,
GC under Secretary, Pastor Kingsley Anonaba (WAD Executive Secretary), and Stella Love Drah
(WAD Assistant Secretary). The exercise was very tasking but at the end the Union Secretariat
came out strong. A certificate was presented by Pastor Hensley Moorooven to the Union
Officers during the WAD Year-end Council on November 6, 2018 at Abidjan. The certificate
acknowledges that Western Nigeria Union Conference is Approved with Excellence in the
General Conference Secretariat Nurture and Evaluation; signed by G T Ng (General Conference
Secretary), Hensley Moorooven (GC Associate Secretary), and Kingsley C. Anonaba (WAD
Executive Secretary).
LITIGATION
As we move closer to the end of the world history, the church will continue to witness strange
experiences among her members and pastoral staff as well. Recently some aggrieved members
of the church in Deltal Conference and Ondo Mission took the Church to court instead of using
biblical approach to settle whatever grievances they have. However, the human method failed
them and the church of God came out victorious. Also, Oyo conference dragged the church
(Western Nigeria Union Conference) to court in Ibadan. According to God's dealing with His
Church, God vindicated His name on May 15, 2018, the day the court pronounced judgment on
the matter. We hope that both church members and pastoral staff would learn from this
experience.
CHALLENGES
In the life of any person or in a corporate setting challenges are inevitable. To every child of God,
challenges are to serve as stepping stones to greater height.
1. Reaching the people of other religion with the gospel (especially the Muslims) is a big
challenge.
2. Unstable internet service or high cost of stable internet service by provider to be able to
meet the ACMS demand in all the entities of the union.
3. Retention of new converts – some of which are not gainfully employed.
4. Less percentage of church members are involved in personal evangelism.
5. Misuse or abuse of social medial among the file and ranks of church members and
clergy.

CONCLUSION AND APPRECIATION
Heaven would rejoice if at this constituency we can prayerfully look a forward on how to turn
some of the above mentioned challenges around to achieve a greater exploit for God in this
union and beyond.
I want to thank God, who alone is worthy of praise and adoration, who alone knows the future,
and who alone rules in the affairs of men. He called an unqualified person like me to serve in this
noble office for five solid years. Even when Satan tried to capsize the boat of this union in 2016
and 2017, Jesus the Prince of peace who is not limited in power arose and spoke. When God says
yes, who can say no. The door He opens no power can close it. God has declared saying, “Indeed
before the day was, I am He; and there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who
will reverse it?” (Isaiah 43:13).
I appreciate my co-officers, Pastor Dr. Oyeleke Alabi Owolabi – President and Elder Amos Omon
Ibhiedu – Treasurer, for the team spirit with which we have worked together this five years. May
the Lord continue to bless your ministries and families. My appreciation also goes to the
directors and the executive committee members for their support and prayers. I cannot but
thank those who work closely with me in the Secretariat – Mrs Oluwatoyin Owolabi (Assistant
Secretary), and Mrs Vivian Ibhiedu (Administrative Secretary) for their commitment and
sacrifice. The Union office staff are highly appreciated for their team spirit, commitment, and
selflessness in service.
Last but not the least appreciation goes to my wife, Esther Oyebola Adeleye for her unflinching
support, understanding, and fervent prayer. My children – Faith Omolola Adeleye and Precious
Oluwapelumi Adeleye – for their understanding, encouragement, support, and prayers, too.
May the grace of God keep us together till we see Him face to face in glory. Amen.
IT IS SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS.
