1ST SEPTEMBER 2019 REPORTER : D HILL

On the rare occasion that Sandersfoot tried to get the ball up to their big striker, Lach Geddes won the ball to generate another Weston attack. Weston continued to reign shots at the Saundersfoot goal but all saved by the away keeper. Eventually the ball did get to the big Saundersfoot striker ,his shot deflected off the Weston defender ,wrong footing our goalkeeper John for a goal. Half time came and the Weston players were encouraged to continue to play their passing game In the hope the equaliser would eventually come.

Second half started much as the first half with Weston dominating possession. The away keeper continuing to deny our attempts on goal. Weston continued to persevere in attack ,when the ball was played back to Niel he unleashed a terrific shot that sailed finally into the Saundersfoot net.

At full time it was a stale mate going into extra time. The game continued with Weston shooting from all angles with the away keeper blocking everything that came his way. In the second period of extra time Weston were awarded a penalty. Steve stepped up confidently to smash the ball into the roof of the Sandersfoot net. Weston then managed the game well for the remaining minutes of the game in order to progress to the finals.

Not perhaps the best Weston performance but after three impressive previous rounds ,the final result was all that really mattered. .........Well Done Weston ....

Weston entered a team on the 1st September for the vintage games at bath university, the team was made up from players from over 50's and over 60's. After reaching the semi finals last year the mood was optimistic. We were drawn in the same group as Wiltshire, Melksham, Frome and Shepton Mallet. Our first game was against Melksham which we lost 1-0 ,the second game we played was against last year winner Wiltshire and we held them at 0-0 which gave us confidence for the rest of the day ,unfortunately however we began to tire and lost our remaining two games 2-0 and

HEREFORD 1 - 4 WESTON-SUPER-MARE

National over 50's cup match on Sunday played at Hereford.

A great team effort saw Weston cruise into the next round of the WFA National cup, two well-taken goals a piece by Mark Hooper & Jerry King secured a safe passage, the over 50's played a competent game of possession & front foot football which the large Hereford crowd appreciated.

Special mentions to John Hembrow, Keith Seabourne & Lach Geddes who dictated the game, the midfield of Niel Evett, Dave Harris & Steve Crilley bossed the game with there tireless work on & off the ball, Jerry King & Mark Hoopers hard work, guile & composure in front of goal made the difference.

We are now just one game away from the final, we have a home game which is the regional final against Welsh side Saundersfoot on the 1st of September kick-off at 12 midday, The report for this match on the front page.

Keith’s Corner:

What’s the difference ? Are you confused ? Keith Explains below

The FA The major body in Football is beginning to focus more on WF. Through their County Fa’s they are developing WF leagues for 50s , 60s and even 70s. Weston have 50s and 60s teams in the Somerset and Gloucester FA leagues. The FA also back The People’s Cup which is a National competition for many different levels of football that includes WF. Presently no plans for an England team.

WFA Self appointed governing body of WA. Headed by Paul Carr. They run the WFA National cups for 50s ,60s , 65s and 70s age groups. They are also getting England teams together and have played a few international matches. They have regional teams at various age levels. Our very own Lach is presently the South West region Manager for the 50s age group. Have their own set of WF laws which slightly differ from the FA laws.

IWFF Run by Terry Rice. Started primarily in the South East but are looking to expand into the other regions. Also developing an England team. On a collision course with the WFA As to who will have the best international matches and tournaments. Danny Ward has recently resigned from his WFA 70s South West Managers role to become IWFF 70s England manager. He is setting up regional trials for interested players.

WFA Laws of the Game 2019 This revised edition of the WFA ‘Laws of the Game’ acknowledges that this unique sport is evolving and developing as it grows, but nevertheless holds fast to the basic ethos and values of the game - To ensure all matches are played safely with full consideration of every participant’s age, gender and ability It is therefore expected that all players, managers and club members will conduct themselves accordingly, respecting all fellow participants, including referees and other match officials. Failure to do so is likely to result in disciplinary action, including disqualification of individuals and/or clubs from WFA events. Section A: Players, Pitches and Equipment Although it is likely that tournaments, leagues, competitions and events will have bespoke rules and conditions, all matches played under the auspices of the WFA will comply with the following standards. Players 1. Goalkeepers must be clearly distinguishable from outfield players on either team. 2. Substitutes must be clearly distinguishable from players on either team, until they are called into play. 3. Amatchshouldbeabandonedifateamispermanentlyreducedtobelowthe

minimum number of players. The term 'permanently' does not apply, however, to players who have been sin-binned but does apply to players who are unable to play through injury or receiving a red card. The minimum number of players per format is: 5-a-side matches – minimum of 3 players 6-a-side matches – minimum of 4 players 7-a-side matches – minimum of 4 players 4. A team which causes the abandonment of a match will forfeit it. 1 Copyright © 2019 The Walking Football Association. All rights reserved. WFA Laws of the Game 2019 Pitches 5. The standard pitch dimensions for competitions (i.e. 5-a-side, 6-a-side and 7- a-side) are a width between 25 metres (min) and 37 metres (max) and a length between 35 metres (min) and 55 metres (max). It is acknowledged, however, that pitches at some facilities may fall outside these guidelines in which case it is a matter for the referee to decide whether or not to proceed. 6. The standard goal size for such competitions is a width between 3 metres (min) and 5 metres (max) and a height between 1.2 metres and 2 metres (max). It is acknowledged, however, that goals at some facilities may fall outside these guidelines in which case it is a matter for the referee to decide whether or not to proceed. 7. A goal area must be clearly marked at each end of the pitch. This may be a semi-circle or rectangle and should extend between 4 metres (min) and 6 metres (max) from the goal line. 8. Aclearlymarkedpenaltyspotshouldbepositionedinlinewiththecentreof the goal and 6 metres from the goal line. 9. Thepositionoftheballonthepitchisdeterminedwhenitcrossesaline entirely (i.e. the whole of the ball). A ball located on the line marking the goal area is considered to be within that area and can, therefore, only be played by the goalkeeper. Section B. Foul Play Running and Jogging 1. Running or jogging on or off the ball is not permitted by any player (including goalkeepers) and will usually result in an indirect free kick being awarded. If, in the opinion of the referee, such conduct results in a clear goal-scoring opportunity being denied, then the offending players should be removed from play for 2 minutes (blue card) and a penalty kick considered if the offending player is a goalkeeper. 2. The referee shall have sole interpretation on deciding what is and what is not walking. A walking action will generally be determined as a progression of steps throughout which there is constantly at least one foot in contact with the ground; both feet are momentarily grounded with the advancing leg straightened. Ball above Head Height 3. The ball is not permitted to travel above head height: I. The ball should be deemed dead once it has exceeded head height. II. Head height is defined as 1.83 metres or the height of the goal cross bar, which should not exceed 2 metres (see Section A: subsection 6). III. The whole of the ball must exceed head height to be deemed an infringement. IV. The referee shall have sole interpretation on the ball exceeding head height .
