How the heck did you get here so fast and what happened to your neighbor, 2015? Is it just me or did that year (2015) go way too fast? It seems like we were just celebrating Bastille Day and now we are celebrating a whole new year!?! How are we going to slow it down (like Katie K. is always suggesting to me...)? Here’s an idea to slow down time...well, maybe not slow it down but enjoy it while it whizzes by: Get involved with people around you! Whether you join the Men’s Club outing (men), go on a outing that you haven’t tried before, join that game or new activity, attend a lecture you’ve always been curious about, or simply invite a new resident to lunch or dinner. It’s all about being social in 2016. Social, and involved. Research tells us that maintaining social connections improves well-being. In contrast, loneliness is not healthy as it can disrupt sleep, increases depression and can elevate blood pressure (and all of that sounds grim). Let’s face it, at Belmont Village we have a ton of things to do - and the majority of people moved in to stay social-- with one another. So, enjoy the time as it whizzes by, say ‘hello’ and be kind to one another. I’ll see you all out there, involved! Trying to slow it down, one year after another. ~James Beverly Belles perform at BV Westwood’s annual Holiday party. A Huge Thank You! Dear residents and family members, Every year you give such a generous amount to the Employee Holiday Appreciation Fund. Well, the 2015 gift was another outstanding and mind blowing amount, and on behalf of all the Staff Members at Belmont Village, “Thank you for your generosity.” Everyone enjoyed the Country Christmas themed holiday party, catered by Lucille’s BBQ, with country line dancing, and tons of raffle prizes. Thank you, again, residents and family members. We appreciate you! ~ Staff Members

James’ NoteHello 2016! How the heck did

you get here so fast and whathappened to your neighbor,2015?

Is it just me or did that year(2015) go way too fast? It seemslike we were just celebratingBastille Day and now we arecelebrating a whole new year!?!How are we going to slow it down(like Katie K. is always suggestingto me...)?

Here’s an idea to slow downtime...well, maybe not slow itdown but enjoy it while it whizzesby: Get involved with peoplearound you! Whether you join theMen’s Club outing (men), go on aouting that you haven’t triedbefore, join that game or newactivity, attend a lecture you’vealways been curious about, orsimply invite a new resident tolunch or dinner. It’s all aboutbeing social in 2016. Social, andinvolved.

Research tells us thatmaintaining social connectionsimproves well-being. In contrast, loneliness is not healthy as it candisrupt sleep, increases depressionand can elevate blood pressure(and all of that sounds grim).

Let’s face it, at Belmont Villagewe have a ton of things to do -and the majority of people movedin to stay social-- with one

another. So, enjoy the time as itwhizzes by, say ‘hello’ and be kindto one another.

I’ll see you all out there, involved! Trying to slow it down, one year after another.

An average of370 people (all age groups) sufferfalls or injuries in the bathtub orshower each day. This is thesecond leading cause of accidentaldeaths or disabilities.

Complications such asmedication side-effects, reducedphysical ability and diminishedvision are contributing factors tofalls in the older person. Here aresome safety tips to help you whilein the bathroom:
