Career Ideas for Teens Revised Series!4-title print set • eBooks and hardcover books available

Praise for the previous editions:“…valuable in a high school library or high school counselors office…”—American Reference Books Annual (praise for the series)

About the series:

A fun, hands-on series for young people looking to formulate and explore career goalsThe Career Ideas for Teens series provides readers with an engaging way to explore their interests and options for a future career. Now in full color, each volume in this thoroughly updated series profiles 35 jobs selected from 16 Career Clusters defined by the U.S. Department of Education as part of a national career cluster initiative. Each highly illustrated book is divided into three main sections full of useful information and thought-provoking exercises.

sections include:• Discover You at Work—Walks readers through

a step-by-step process to identify their strengths and interests and match them to appropriate jobs. Readers use activities based on the career research of Dr. John Holland and those devised by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration as part of the O*NET program.

• Explore Your Options—Provides in-depth descrip-tions of approximately 35 jobs per volume and includes resources for further information. Special sidebars outline exercises that encourage readers to “hire themselves” and learn firsthand what the job is like.

• Experiment with Success—Activities and re-sources teach readers how to begin networking early and how to gather career information from established professionals.

The activities in Career Ideas for Teens help teens ask the right questions about what kind of career they want and how they can prepare for it, encourage them to become their own best counselor, and help them answer the age-old question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

If you’re like the young journalists atthe Moore Square Museum Magnet School in Raleigh, North

Carolina, you’ve got your own questions about fi refi ghting.

Maybe they are the same questions posed by this talented and

very curious team of kids—Haley G., Lauren H., Joshua R., Di-

vya T., Josh C., Jacob T., and their advisor Milly Hodges Lester

who started a school newspaper called the M2M3 Gazette.

For questions like these, we go straight to the source for

answers. In this case, we asked fi refi ghters associated with

the Missoula Fire Department in Montana to answer the stu-

dent’s questions. What follows are answers from Chief Mi-

chael Painter and Firefi ghter First Class Bill Bennett, Fire-

Firefighters take turns cook-ing, cleaning, and shopping for food. And no bickering about whose turn it is to do what is allowed!

Practice Makes PerfectTraining is another way that firefighters spend their time. Being ready for anything involves thinking through the most drastic “what if” situations and preparing to respond. What if we get to a fire and there are three chil-dren trapped upstairs? What if a train com-
