Typical software engineer's life• My brother works in a one of the top three IT companies in India as an engineer . He

has a typical software engineer’s life. During weekdays he works late in the nights, gets up late in the morning and spends the majority of the weekends sleeping.

• Most of his waking hours are spent fiddling with his laptop or watching movies or just hanging out in the malls. Unlike some software engineers in his age group, 23 to 27 year old, he nurtures no ambitions of starting a company or working in a startup or making killer applications.

Content with current life ….

• He is happy with what he is currently doing and he just wants to stick to doing that. One would assume that since he is content with his professional life and does not plan to put any extra effort into it, he should move forward on the personal front like getting married, buying a house , etc.

• However for some strange reasons he does not want to even start thinking in this direction. Though he knows that he will eventually get married, buy a house but he does not want to start thinking of it now. He is happy to be in the suspended decision mode. And he is not the only one of his kind. Majority of software engineers in his age group are happily holding on to their indecision.

Wake up SID……• One could argue that they are waiting for that ‘right’ person. However,

given the social skills of software engineers and the skewed male female ratio in IT companies, probability of an office romance (a ‘mutual’ kind) is very low.

• So I would expect these software engineers to go out, socialize, meet new people but all they do is to either get drunk with their male friends or sleep or kill hours at the ping pong table in the office.

Decision time….• So now you know why you haven’t met a software engineer who

doesn’t know how to play table tennis . Getting back to the point, in my opinion indecision is good if you are actually thinking about the decision to be made. Indecision is not good when you have numbed up your mind and are just trying to ignore the eventuality.
