What car’s best for my family?Your family of four needs a car and you

get to help decide which car they should buy! They know they want to buy something that is 2007 or newer. They have asked you to do some research and find what you think is the best car based on your budget. Is it better to buy new or used? Hybrid or pure gas powered? A large SUV or a compact car? It’s up to you to convince them of your choice!

Your TaskOver the next four class periods you

will be working on your project in a three member team. You must find the best car for your family of four that drives 2000 miles a month on the highway and back it up with some information! You will need a good argument to convince your parents. Use the questions in the process section to help guide you.

Process Continued2. Go online and look at some cars that you are

interested in. Create a list of car prices with their highway gas mileages so you can check to see how much your monthly payments will be on the bank site and how much you will be spending on gas each month. Are there cars that are really good but don’t cost as much? If I like a car, would I save money if I found it used?

3. Go to the bank site and check to see how much the monthly payments will be on the car. Do I want to save money on the cheaper car or do I really want the more expensive one?

5. Will I feel safe in the car? Would I trust it’s crash test scores?

6. How much will we save each month if we buy a more inexpensive car? What could we do each month with the money we saved of the $500 per month?
