What Coaching IS

Page 2: What Coaching is

• Coach – “a large kind of carriage”• Helps you to get from Point A to Point B (faster)

The concept of Coaching comes from the original word ‘Coach’

Page 3: What Coaching is

What Coaching IS• It’s a powerful conversation between a Coach and a

Client where the Client uses tools like questioning, listening, intuition, observation and feedback

• The use of these by a Coach helps a Client uncover for himself/ herself the fastest and the best way to move forward and deal with their challenges

• The power of coaching can be best experienced through an actual session. Words cannot describe adequately how it works.

Page 4: What Coaching is

Fundamentally, a Coach helps the Client in two ways.

Page 5: What Coaching is

1) A Coachhelps a Client set goals that will add significantlyto the Client’s life

2) To achieve those goals

2) A Coach helps the Client to achieve those goals

Page 7: What Coaching is

Here are some things a Coach will provide during a coaching

assignment

Page 8: What Coaching is

1) Access to ideas the Client may already hold, but is not yet aware of• By viewing the situation

from a different perspective, the Coach is able to lead the Client in an exploration of ideas that he/she may not have previously considered.

Page 9: What Coaching is

2) Clarity around what the Client actually wants• Sometimes the Client may not be clear to

himself/herself what he/she wants

Page 10: What Coaching is

3) A sounding board for new ideas• Providing a safe place to suggest new ideas is an

essential aspect of their current situation, unlocking a world of new, unexplored potential.

Page 11: What Coaching is

4) Support in big decision making• Encouragement in walking new paths is essential to

build the courage to continue beyond the safety of what is known.

• The Coach can help the Client grow and develop their own individual strategies and solutions.

Page 12: What Coaching is

5) Challenge to expand the thinking process and make bold new decisions• Someone daring you to go further than you ever have

before is also an extremely powerful way to break old habits and forge new boundaries.

Page 13: What Coaching is

6) Direction in times of confusion, opinion and if necessary, advice.• Once again, the power of a fresh set of eyes to

interpret a new perspective on a situation is often in valuable during the coaching process.

Page 14: What Coaching is

7) Brainstorming to flesh out new ideas• A Client can often get stuck with the same thoughts

and the same ideas. A partner to brainstorm with can help bring out new ideas.

Page 15: What Coaching is

8) Acknowledgement and validation• This cannot be stressed enough. The Coach who only

focuses with the Client on what is missing and what needs to be done, deserves to lose the Client.
