WHAT it means: Treat everyone as an individual and personalise care.
HOW and TOOLS TO EMBED:
• Use PCCP well
• Include life & family stories, aspirations and plans to achieve
• Ensure choice offered and known: routines, activities, hobbies, food, clothes, hair, jewellery, make up
• Use My morning routine and personal preferences exercises
• Involve right people to produce
• Regular meetings with family & friends and review and update (people change)
• Use Dignity means to me films and SCiE films
• Use of items from past and Memory boxes
• Understand individual support required
• Play music individuals like
• Don’t be judgemental / use stereotypes / make assumptions – Use ‘Look at Me’ film
• Challenge inappropriate care – Good whistle-blowing policy
• Use of Key Workers
• Have Dignity on agenda at every team meeting, Recognise and praise good staff /role modelling (Employee of the week, Care Awards)

• Appropriate use of names (use PCCP)
• Right / sensitive language (verbal and body)
• Good use of various communication tools
• Role modelling and recognise & praise best practice
• Good Shift handover communications
WHAT it means: Privacy
HOW and TOOLS TO EMBED:
• Use Privacy policies – knock before entering, dressing and undressing etc
• Time and privacy when going to the toilet
• Careful use of information on PCCP

HOW and TOOLS TO EMBED:• Understand religious beliefs and practices • Understand person’s home not just your place of work• Make eye contact• Speak as you would speak to another adult not child
