Task 3 – What should a good map have?

A basic map should have:

• Title – Tells you what the map is showing

• Key – Guide for what the map symbols mean

• Scale – Shows how large the map area is in real life

• North Point – Shows which way is North

• Co-ordinates – Helps you to locate points on a map

• To locate features on a map we use the map ‘co-ordinates’.

• To find a place, first look at the horizontal letters. Then look at the vertical numbers.

• ‘Go along the hallway and then up the stairs!’
