What is Physics?

• The study of motion and energy of matter

• The study of the metric system

• The study of weather

Physics is…• You will learn the

differences between speed, velocity and acceleration. You will learn about forces (like friction , gravity and elasticity). You will learn a lot about the contributions of Isaac Newton.

What type of notebook do you need for Science Class?

• Interactive – Marble composition/120 pages

• Spiral notebook/120 pages

• Three ring binder with paper

What types of textbooks will you have?

• Physical Science Textbook and a Properties of Matter lab book.

• Physical Science Textbook

• Properties of Matter lab book

More information about question 6

• You will always have two resources for science class – a textbook and a lab book. You will be able to keep both books at home and use a class set in class. Do not loose these books – you must return them at the end of the year. Put your name in both books.

• Create an Element Book

• Create a Solar System

• Design an experiment with three variables.

More information about question 7

• In the third marking period you will create a book about the elements. You will get a chance to learn about the properties of many elements and have fun at the same time.

How much homework will you have in 8th grade science?

• Usually M-Th, 10 – 30 minutes

• Every night – an hour at least!

• Only on weekends – plan on three hours
