2010 ANNUAL REPORT
WHAT DOES DEVELOPMENT MEAN?
LIFE IS DEVELOPMENT. AN IMPRESSIVE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH REPORTS FROM ALL
SCIENTIFIC AND ARTISTIC DISCIPLINES CAN BE REDUCED TO THESE SIMPLE THREE WORDS.
IN FACT, EVERYTHING AROUND US IS CONSTANTLY DEVELOPING. SOME THINGS SEEM TO
TAKE THEIR TIME AND CHANGES ARE HARDLY VISIBLE. OTHER THINGS, HOWEVER, HAPPEN
VERY QUICKLY. IN RETROSPECT, WE ARE OFTEN FULL OF AMAZEMENT.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO IMAGINE AN ECONOMY WITHOUT DEVELOPMENT. THE REVERSE IS
ALSO TRUE: DEVELOPMENT IS UNIMAGINABLE WITHOUT ECONOMIC INNOVATION. IT HAS
ALWAYS BEEN THE CHANGES AND INNOVATIONS IN ECONOMIC STRUCTURES THAT HAVE
DECISIVELY CONTRIBUTED TO THE FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF OUR SOCIETY. OVER THE
LAST 200 YEARS, WE HAVE DEVELOPED FROM AN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY TO AN
INDUSTRIAL AND SERVICE SOCIETY AND MOST RECENTLY TO AN INFORMATION SOCIETY.
WE DON’T KNOW IN WHAT DIRECTION OUR SOCIETY WILL DEVELOP OVER THE NEXT FEW
DECADES. HOWEVER, SOME FACTORS ARE ALREADY APPARENT: PEOPLE ARE GETTING
OLDER, WHICH MEANS THAT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO NEED CARE WILL RISE AND
THAT PENSIONS MUST BE FINANCED ON A LONG-TERM BASIS. OUR SOCIAL WELFARE
SYSTEM AS WELL AS OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM FACE GREAT CHALLENGES. THE ROLE
THAT INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE PLAY WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE. TODAY DATA IS
ALREADY TRAVELLING AROUND THE WORLD AT LIGHTNING SPEED. PEOPLE, STATES AND
ECONOMIC SYSTEMS ARE MOVING CLOSER TOGETHER. THE WORLD IS INCREASINGLY
BECOMING A GLOBAL VILLAGE. BORDERS ARE LOSING THEIR MEANING. AS WE HAVE
ALREADY SEEN, THIS CLOSE INTERTWINING CAN HAVE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES. BUT
EVEN THOUGH GREAT CHALLENGES HAVE ARISEN, WE HAVE ALWAYS MANAGED TO
OVERCOME THESE DIFFICULTIES BY CONTINUING TO DEVELOP.
EVERYTHING IS IN A CONSTANT
STATE OF DEVELOPMENT

RToptimists on supercycles and golden years. In any
case, we all are living in a time of transition that
challenges us as a bank. It is necessary to react to
change in a timely manner and to play an active role
in dealing with certain developments.
Many people contributed to the fact that 2010 was a
good year for Raif feisen-Landesbank Steiermark
and the Raiffeisen Banking Group, in the first place
naturally our customers. A reliable partner, we did
not leave them alone during the crisis. We are also
accompanying them now in the upswing in order to
take advantage of new opportunities with them and
for them.
We also have to thank our owners, the Styrian
Raiffeisen banks. The atmosphere at Raif feisen in
Styria is really something special, and it is for a
good reason that we are envied for it again and
again. And, of course, I would like to thank all those
offering their services to Raiffeisen-Landesbank
Steiermark on a daily basis and who make our
success possible through their work. In the end, it is
they who continue to develop this enterprise.
Markus Mair
Chairman of the Managing Board
Some words and sentences are said or written
very quickly. For example: “We’ve learned from the
crisis”. I’ve heard this sentence a lot in the past
year. And I’ve asked myself whether the people who
say this have in fact learned from the crisis.
When I recapitulate some of the messages in the
media, I have the feeling that only a very few people
have actually learned anything from the crisis.
Quickly, sometimes too quickly, everything has
returned to the way it was before the crisis.
Raif feisen-Landesbank Steiermark has actually
learned from the crisis. We have drawn our own
conclusions from the economic upheaval of the
past few years and have taken action in good time.
Thanks to a self-imposed result improvement
programme, our bank is becoming more customer-
orientated, slimmer and fit ter so that we can
manage future crises all by ourselves, with our own
strength. Because one thing is absolutely certain:
Exceptional situations like the last one can descend
upon us again at any time and with the same force.
In 2010, the economy accelerated once again and
the 2 % economic growth in Austria definitely marks
a positive development. However, it is not enough
to control unemployment quickly, even if it is going
down faster than originally supposed.
Where economic development is really heading
in the coming months and years is disputed.
Pessimists are counting on negative growth,

REPORT OF THE SUPERVISORY
BOARD ON THE 2010 FINANCIAL YEAR
The Supervisory Board of the Raiffeisen-Landes-
bank Steiermark AG held six meetings in the period
under review, during which the required decisions
were made. In the course of its audit, the Super-
visory Board could satisfy itself that the Raiffeisen-
Landesbank Steiermark AG is managed in a careful,
conscientious, flawless and cooperative way by
those in charge. It has thus fulfilled all the tasks
assigned to it by law and the articles of association.
Due to the extraordinary economic conditions still
ongoing in 2010, the Supervisory Board in the role
assigned to it by law and the articles of association
together with the Managing Board took active
measures for the long-term preservation of the
interests of the Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark
AG as well as its continuing steady and successful
development.
The members of the Supervisory Board were
promptly, regularly and fully informed by the
Managing Board both orally and in writing on
important business transactions and on all relevant
issues concerning the development of business
including the risk situation and risk management.
The request of Hans-Heinz Jauk, member of the
Supervisory Board, to step down early from the
Supervisory Board was noted at the Annual General
Meeting of 19 May 2010 and the election of his
successor was held. On behalf of the Supervisory
Board, I would like to thank Hans-Heinz Jauk for his
many years of commendable work for our institution
and the Raiffeisen Association, which he performed
with a lot of circumspection. On 19 May 2010, Mayor
Franz Titschenbacher, chairman of the Raiffeisen
Association Styria, was elected as a new member
of the Supervisory Board.
The internal and group audit department reported
every quarter to the Executive Committee, appoin-
ted by the Supervisory Board according to § 42
paragraph 3 of the Federal Banking Act, on
important findings on the basis of the audits
conducted.
The Supervisory Board’s audit committee held
two meetings in the period under review and fully
performed the tasks conferred upon it by law.
The annual financial statements and the manage-
ment report as well as the consolidated financial
statements and the consolidated management
report for the 2010 financial year were examined in
detail together with the statutory bank auditor, the
Austrian Raiffeisen Association, as well as with the
additional, voluntarily appointed annual auditor, the
KPMG Austria GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungs- und
Steuerberatungsgesellschaft. Since these met the
statutory provisions to the fullest, both the bank
auditor and the annual auditor issued the clean
audit certificate.
14
The audit committee dealt with the present balance
sheet on 15 April 2011. The examination of the
annual financial statements and the management
report as well as the consolidated annual financial
statements and consolidated management report
for the 2010 financial year as well as acknowledge-
ment of the report of the bank auditor and the
annual auditor by the Supervisory Board took
place at its meeting on 15 April 2011. After the
conclusive result of its examinations, the Super-
visory Board raised no objections. The Super-
visory Board approves the annual financial state-
ments drawn up by the Managing Board, which is
thus established according to § 96 of the Austrian
Stock Corporation Act, and takes note of the
consolidated annual financial statements.
The annual report shows that the Raiffeisen-
Landesbank Steiermark AG, despite the extra-
ordinary economic environment, is a firmly rooted
and reliable regional bank, which has successfully
met the growing challenges of the market due to
its sustainable business model.
On the basis of this success, the Supervisory Board
would like to express its gratitude and appreciation
to the Managing Board, the executives as well as
all the employees of Raif feisen-Landesbank
Steiermark AG for their commitment and their
successful work in 2010. And most of all, we would
like to extend a special thank you to our customers
for the confidence they have shown in us. Our
long-term customer relations are a sign that the
Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark AG is a reliable
partner for all situations in life.

our bank. The total numbers achieved in this sector
in 2010 clearly verify this. The overall budget of
EUR 3.3 billion (–1 %) is approximately on the
same level as in the previous year. Deposits in
the commercial sector amounting to roughly
EUR 660 million remained nearly on the same
level as in 2009.
A special topic in the commercial sector was energy
efficiency in businesses. At eight informational
events held in cooperation with the Province of
Styria as part of “WIN energy!”, about 1,000 Styrian
entrepreneurs were informed about the positive
effects energy saving has on the climate and their
businesses. Practical experience and tips for
implementing energy efficiency measures were
passed on to municipalities as part of a mayors’
conference.
Additional areas of emphasis in 2010 in the com-
mercial customer sector were financial precautions
for businesses, which focused entirely on the
financial security of businesses, and an export
campaign. The previous year saw a clear upswing
in foreign trade. Both the general atmosphere and
the order volume improved strongly for exporters in
Styria as well. This positive development can also
be seen in Raif feisen-Landesbank Steiermark‘s
foreign operations.
The overall volumes in documentary business have
risen by 30 % to EUR 140.8 million. Raif feisen-
Landesbank Steiermark is still the only Styrian
cooperation partner of the European Investment
Bank.
PANTA RHEI – EVERYTHING FLOWS
Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark is a bank with a
large number of business segments. We offer our
customers all financial services from one provider.
Today, this is called a “one-stop shop”, and we have
been one for a long time.
Our business segments are as diverse as our
customers. It doesn’t matter whether they are
private, commercial, trade, industrial or private
banking customers, whether they are concerned
with leasing, credit, building society savings
(Bausparen), insurance or real estate – there is one
thing that all our customers have in common: they
benefit from the best bank services in Styria.
The banking business has never been as diverse
as it is today. Besides the traditional counters,
Raif feisen-Landesbank Steiermark provides its
customers with many dif ferent ways to carry out
their financial transactions. The services range
from personal contact in the bank branch to online
and telephone banking to assisted self service.
Customers took advantage of all these services
in 2010.
COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS
The commercial customer sector of Raif feisen-
Landesbank Steiermark is a large partner to the
industry in Styria and thereby an essential part of

RTinfrastructure for capital market activities. However,
not only do we manage our own risks, but we also
support the Styrian Raiffeisen banks in managing
their risks.
In 2010, we developed another pillar for the
refinancing of our bank by issuing “fundierte
Bankschuldverschreibungen” (covered bank bonds).
These bonds help us to attract in particular national
and international institutional customers looking for
opportunities to invest in bonds or covered bonds.
What is unique is that the receivables we use in
our premium reserve stock come not only from the
Landesbank but also from the entire Raif feisen
Banking Group Styria. Thus, we enable the
Raiffeisen Banking Group Styria to continue to be
a strong partner when it comes to mortgage and
public sector financing and to offer its customers
attractive conditions thanks to reasonable
refinancing.
SECURITIES BUSINESS
In 2010, our securities transactions developed in a
very satisfying way. Following the positive recovery
of the economy, the situation on the capital markets
improved as well. Around the globe, economic
activity revived, often supported by massive fiscal
and monetary measures. Loan business recorded
very good gains, which is particularly true for
corporate bonds and the Raiffeisen-Landesbank
Steiermark issues. This atmosphere of change on
LEASING
Leasing for commercial customers has been a
big topic over the last few years. In 2010, the focus
was on “car financing”. This sector showed the
largest gains with an increase of 13 %. We manage
2,100 leasing contracts with a total leasing volume
of EUR 65 million.
In order to be even more customer-friendly, we
offered an entirely new service product in 2010:
Raif feisen Online Leasing. This new product is a
feature of our popular ELBA Internet allowing our
customers to independently calculate their leasing
offers for the car of their dreams at any time of the
day, 365 days a year and, in the best case, to lease
a car right online.
TREASURY
Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark is the only
Styrian bank operating its own treasury. Interest
rate hedging was one of several topics that our
commercial customer sector and the capital
market/treasury sector were intensively and jointly
concerned with. Interest rate hedging increases
the security of calculations and planning and thus
helps to keep financing costs on a low level.
By implementing “Front Arena“, a state-of-the-art
trading and risk management system, Raiffeisen-
Landesbank Steiermark significantly expanded its

the capital markets could also be felt in stock
broking and funds transactions. As a result,
our securities business recorded strong gains.
Our customer volume increased by 9 % to
EUR 4.7 billion, the turnover on customer
accounts increased by 1.8 % to EUR 1.4 billion.
SHAREHOLDING
Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark is not only a
large bank for commercial customers, but it also
holds important shares such as those in the
Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG, the Landes-
Hypothekenbank Steiermark AG and the Raiffeisen
network banks in Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and
Bosnia-Herzegovina. Together they form the core
of our shareholding portfolio. Last year, shares
as shown by the books increased to about
EUR 1.2 billion. In addition to these core shares in
one-stop financial services businesses, we have
set ourselves the goal of providing medium-sized
businesses with equity capital in order to enable
them to reach new growth and innovation goals.
A finance company for medium-sized businesses
helps in keeping shareholdings such as the one in
the Vienna-based piano maker Joseph Brodmann
GmbH. A joint project of Raif feisen-Landesbank
Steiermark and Waldverband Steiermark (Styrian
Forest Owners Association), Lignum GmbH tends
and manages forests for owners active in dif ferent
industries.
PRIVATE CUSTOMERS
In 2010, our private customers had eleven bank
branches at their disposal, ten in Graz and one
in Frohnleiten. In addition, we operated the
competence centres “Bauen & Wohnen” (Building &
Living), “Musterhauspark” (Model Home Park) and
“Raiffeisen UniCenter” (Raif feisen University Center).
All our outlets achieved very good results. Demand,
time and sight deposits increased by 16.51 % to EUR
97.1 million. Compared to 2009, financing increased
by 13.65 % and reached EUR 328.5 million at the end
of 2010. In 2010, savings deposits for private
customers accounted for EUR 395.5 million.
PRIVATE BANKING
Our sophisticated private customers benefit from
our young Private Banking team in the Steirerhof
bank branch in Graz, where twelve employees
provide their services to around 2100 customers.
The latest financial planning tools enable us to
gain a comprehensive overview of our customers’
finances and in the end result in higher quality
consulting for our sophisticated customers. The
efforts of our Private Banking team led to increases
both in market share in this area and in customer
loyalty. In 2010, our assets under management
amounted to about EUR 400 million.
Last year, local media frequently consulted our

RTdevelopment due to the fact that Raif feisen-Landes-
bank Steiermark has offered its customers a broad
range of attractive bonds and investment products
for a long time.
Customer loyalty also increased thanks to the highly
frequented events organised by Private Banking –
from capital market ratings to the exhibition opening
of Hubert Schmalix’ paintings.
PAYMENT TRANSACTIONS
Both corporate and private customers use our
payment transactions on a daily basis for purchases
using an ATM card (Bankomat) or credit card or for
payments via direct debit orders, standing orders
or transfers. In 2010, we managed 114.1 million
payment transactions, a 3 % increase compared
to 2009. Due to the greater use of electronic
banking (+5.7 %), one of our main focuses in
2010, paper-based payment transactions
declined from 8.1 million to 7.7 million (–5.4 %).
INSURANCE BUSINESS
Reducing costs and personal financial security were
very important in 2010. They both go hand in hand.
“More caution!” is the lesson we learned from the
most recent years of crisis; of course, this holds true
in the traditional insurance business as well. In
2010, we can take the credit for the following great
outcomes: in the area of life insurances with special
interest rates (bonifizierte Lebensversicherung),
we achieved a very positive annual result of
EUR 244.8 million (+4.5 %). In accident insurance
business we recorded an increase of 7.5 %.
BUILDING SOCIETY SAVINGS (BAUSPAREN)
One classical type of investment is saving money
with a building society. Especially in turbulent times,
secure building society savings contracts become
extremely popular. Throughout Styria, more than
55,000 new building society savings contracts
were taken out in 2010. We are responsible for a
total of 310,000 contracts – a great success for all
Raif feisen banks in Styria.
PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT
Private clients who take out a loan very often need
it for building a house. Raiffeisen Bauträger &
ProjektentwicklungsGmbH, a property and project
development subsidiary of Raiffeisen-Landesbank
Steiermark, has made housing dreams come true since
2010. The “Green Village” project constructs affordable
apartments in attractive, green locations. Beautiful
apartments, functional ground plans, a lot of green
and quiet, and distinctive forms make this innovative
project one of a kind. The first building complexes are
being built in Fernitz and Graz-Mariagrün; others are
being prepared for the Styrian regions.

provider Comm-Unity, we replaced the existing
ERP solution with a municipal SAP system for about
650 municipalities. For another customer, we
networked 28 locations and took over the previously
existing network management. We are especially
pleased to have become the only bank IT service
centre in Austria to receive ISO/IEC 20000 certifi-
cation. This officially confirms that the centre is
orientated towards clients and services to the
highest degree.
RAIFFEISEN ASSOCIATION
An association bank, Raif feisen-Landesbank
Steiermark provides many services to the local
Raif feisen banks. The Raiffeisen banks are
supported both in their strategic and operational
sales management. Organisational concepts are
jointly developed and implemented. For example,
we jointly worked out a concept for intensifying
private customer care and commercial customer
care. The latter focuses on further increasing its
demand-orientation and on treating our commercial
customers holistically.
LIQUIDITY EQUALISATION BOARD
In its function as the liquidity equalisation board
for the Styrian Raiffeisen banks, Raif feisen-Landes-
bank Steiermark understands how important it is
that refinancing rests on a broad base. For this
RAIFFEISEN MULTIFUNCTIONAL CENTRE
We do not build exclusively for others. We build for
us, too. In 2010 we decided to expand our location
in Raaba near Graz. By 2013, the Raiffeisen
Multifunctional Centre Styria will have been built on
a total area of 41,000 m². The most state-of-the-art
high-security IT service centre in South Styria, it
will feature training and event rooms, modern and
flexible office infrastructure, a cafeteria and dining
area and future-oriented infrastructure.
We think it is especially important to build eco-
logically. Waste heat from the IT service centre
will be used for heating. In summer, groundwater
will be used to cool the site and the façade will
feature solar panels. Others talk about climate
protection; we take action.
IT SERVICE CENTRE
An essential part of the new Raiffeisen Multifunctio-
nal Centre will be the newly constructed IT service
centre. In 2009, we incorporated our IT Service
Centre into an independent company, the Raiffeisen
Rechenzentrum Süd GmbH, in order to offer our
competences in this field to a larger market. Thus,
2010 was all about establishing our service centre
on the IT market.
And we succeeded. We managed to acquire new
customers and provide them with innovative IT
solutions. For example, for the municipal software

Increasing pressure caused by competition and
costs and the dynamic demands of the market
require us to adapt the organisational framework
more and more quickly. Thus, our goals for 2011 are
perfectly clear: switching to leaner organisational
structures and putting our customers even more
into the centre of our actions. Some call this very
ambitious; we think it is perfectly normal.

strives for an external rating. Topics such as
strategy, liquidity, capital resources, market
position, risk management or profitability play an
essential role for us. Ratings are given following a
transparent and independent evaluation. Having a
rating means we can expect to be compared
objectively with the competition. Moreover, we can
expect to strengthen our image and to safeguard
our status as a customer bank.

We have always seen ourselves as contributors
to society. We don’t do this because it is trendy or
in fashion – we do it out of conviction. Because
Raiffeisen has always been committed to more than
just corporate goals.
Much of what we stand up for and what we are
in volved in contributes to the continuing develop-
ment of society, supports those who often don’t
receive sufficient support and helps to make our
world more beautiful, safer and more worth living in.
Last year, for example, we were very involved in
climate protection. We set a good example and
tried to get other people interested in this topic since
climate protection affects all of us.
Because we know precisely that nobody can always
keep on the sunny side of life, and because we know
that fate can sometimes be very harsh, we also made
great contributions to organisations operating in
the social sector. We supported the Graz-based
“Odilien-Institut” (Institute for the Visually Impaired
and the Blind) and were also on board the large
Caritas fundraising drive in autumn.
The safety of society’s smallest members was once
again a topic in 2010. We cooperated closely with
“Bärenburg” Child Safety House at the Clinical
Centre in Graz and hope that in doing so we helped
to reduce children’s accidents. With our series “mobil
& sicher” (mobile & safe), we took on the dangers of
road traffic as well as drug prevention, since safety is
not just limited to road traffic.
Naturally nothing will change in terms of our commit-
ment to society in 2011, for there are still a lot of
areas where it pays for us to get involved.
OUR COMMITMENT TO SOCIETY
924 PEOPLE IN THE RAIFFEISEN-
LANDESBANK STEIERMARK GET
THINGS MOVING FOR YOU.
The year 2010 brought great challenges in the area of
human resources. The crisis of the two previous
years left a significant mark on the banking world.
The requirements for banks have been greatly
expanded, not least by legislators and supervising
authorities. Parallel to this development, of course,
only limited resources were and are available.
As of 31 December 2010, 924 men and women were
employed at RLB. 36 employees started to work and
15 employees retired.
Three projects shaped human resources develop-
ment in 2010. First, we worked on arriving at a more
cost-conscious human resources management that
is even more in line with demand. We saved money
by using new solutions and applications and were
able to increase efficiency. With our flexible working
time model that was implemented in 2010, we
adapted our company to better deal with the realities
of our times. In a second large project, we set up a
new cross-departmental sales management system
in order to perform even more powerfully on the
market. In the future, it will have an important
operational and strategic function in the entire
group. Finally, we worked intensively to develop our
goals. In the end, the basis for the success of every
company lies in managing employees via concrete
goals and checking whether the goals that were set
were also achieved.
In 2010, we deliberately did not make any cuts in
the area of training, which is of great significance
for the future of Raif feisen-Landesbank Steiermark.
Only well-trained employees can guarantee our
success.

Landesmusikfest der Blasmusik (Styria Wind Music
Festival), the Jazzwerkstatt (Jazz Festival) and in the
film project “Der Grazer Schlossberg“ (The Graz
Schlossberg). Concerts by David Guetta, Elton John,
and Sido as well as the Grazer Stadtfest (Graz City
Festival) and the Seefesttage Music Festival on Lake
Schwarzl also received our support.
In sport, we entered into a new partnership with
the handball players of the handball team HSG
Raiffeisen Bärnbach-Köflach in 2010. One special
event was the public screening of the FIFA World Cup
in South Africa in Graz’s Pfauengarten park.
Our perennial events took place once again in 2010:
the bicycle helmet campaign, “Kinder ins Theater”
(Children to the Theatre) and the series “mobil &
sicher” (mobile & safe).
What would Styria be without its events, concerts
and matches, without its associations and organi-
sations that see to it that athletic, cultural and other
events take place, events that bring people together
and ultimately contribute to Styria being an interes-
ting province worth living in? It would be poorer off!
Sponsors who provide support are necessary to
make this all possible. Raif feisen-Landesbank and
the entire Raif feisen Banking Group proved to be
great sponsors in Styria in 2010. We were involved in
all areas of a person’s life. We would like to give you
several examples:
In the area of academics, we sponsored the UniGraz-
Card, supported the Alumni Association of the Uni-
versity of Graz and donated a lecture hall to the Uni-
versity of Leoben.
Along with the Styrian Raiffeisen banks, we were
once again a main sponsor of the styriarte in
2010. In addition, we were involved in Musikverein

the demand for comprehensive consulting. We
quickly adapted to meet this demand, developing
and implementing new strategic consulting concepts
and tools in 2010. And success was not long in
coming: Not only did the number of consultations
increase, but we also acquired nearly 30,000 new
clients.
Raif feisen doesn’t just provide its services to clients
in Styria. We accompany them wherever they
are drawn. To this end, we rely on our extensive
Raif feisen network consisting of banks in 17 coun-
tries in Central and Eastern Europe. In the Raiffeisen
network banks, Styrian businesses encounter
Austrian banking know-how and thus the familiar
services they are used to at home. A taste of home
abroad.
The Raiffeisen Banking Group Styria is an associa-
tion of a total of 88 independent Raif feisen banks
with 337 bank branches throughout Styria: from Bad
Aussee to Spielfeld and from Schladming to Neudau.
In 2010, our banking group serviced more than
800,000 clients and is thus Styria’s number one local
financial services provider. In addition, Raif feisen is
market leader in Styria not only in number of clients
but also in volume.
Even a market leader has to adapt to new circum-
stances in good time. This is the ultimate secret of all
successful businesses. Yesterday‘s thoughts are
tomorrow‘s successes; today‘s strategies are
tomorrow‘s chances for success.
It has always been Raiffeisen Styria’s top priority to
provide our clients with the best possible services
and support them in all their undertakings. Over the
last couple of years, there has been a sharp rise in

REPORT ON THE ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTSI have audited the attached annual financial statements of Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark AG, Graz, together with the underlying accounting records, for the financial year from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2010. These annual financial statements include the balance sheet as of 31 December 2010, the profit and loss statement for the financial year ending on 31 December 2010, and the notes.
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE LEGAL REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AND THE UNDERLYING ACCOUNTING RECORDSThe accounting records as well as the preparation and contents of the financial statements are the responsibility of the company’s legal representatives. They shall present a true and fair view of the company’s net assets, its financial position and earnings situation pursuant to Austrian commercial and banking laws. This responsibility includes the design, implementation and maintenance of an internal control system, insofar as this is relevant to the preparation of the annual financial statements and the presentation of a true and fair view of the company’s net assets, its financial position and earnings situation, so that these statements are free of material misstatements, whether due to intentional or unintentional mistakes. It also includes choosing and applying suitable accounting and valuation methods and carrying out estimates that appear appropriate under the existing circumstances.
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ANNUAL AUDITOR AND DESCRIPTION OF THE TYPE AND SCOPE OF THE LEGALLY REQUIRED AUDITMy responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements on the basis of my audit. I have performed my audit in accordance with the statutory regulations and professional auditing principles generally accepted in Austria. These standards require that I comply with the rules of the profession and plan and conduct the audit so as to obtain reasonable assurance that the financial statements are free from material misstatement.
The audit includes carrying out audit procedures in order to obtain audit evidence supporting the amounts and other disclosures contained in the financial statements. The choice of audit procedures depends on the conscientious discretion of the auditor, taking into consideration his/her estimation of the chance that a material misstatement has been made, whether due to intentional or unintentional mistakes. When estimating the level of this risk, the auditor takes the internal control system into consideration, insofar as it is of significance for preparing the annual financial statements and providing a true and fair view of the company‘s net assets, financial position and earnings situation, in order to determine the appropriate audit procedures under the circumstances. The auditor does not, however, give an opinion on the ef fectiveness of the company’s internal control system. An audit also includes evaluating the adequacy of the accounting and valuation policies used and the accounting estimates made by the legal representatives, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial statements.
I believe that the audit evidence I have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for my audit opinion.
AUDIT OPINIONMy audit did not give rise to any objections. Based on the results of my audit, the annual financial statements, in my opinion, present fairly, in all material respects, a true and fair view of the net assets and financial position of the company as of 31 December 2010, and of its earnings situation for the financial year from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2010 in accordance with the accounting standards generally accepted in Austria.
STATEMENTS ON THE MANAGEMENT REPORTAccording to the statutory regulations, it shall be determined whether the management report is consistent with the financial statements and whether the other disclosures made in the management report do not give rise to a false idea of the position of the company. The audit certif icate shall also contain a statement on whether the management report is consistent with the financial statements and whether the disclosures pursuant to § 243a of the Austrian Code of Enterprises (UGB) are accurate.
In my judgment, the management report is consistent with the financial statements. The disclosures pursuant to § 243a of the Austrian Code of Enterprises (UGB) are accurate.
