Humans as Khalifah

Khalifah means custodian or steward of the world for Allah. This is very important for Muslims because it affects the way they look at the world around them. This reminds them of the following:

• The world belongs to Allah

• Allah gives people (especially Muslims) responsibility for taking care of the world for His pleasure.

• They have a duty to look after it and make sure that it is used properly.

• They must not allow it to be misused because you must give Allah (swt) an account of what they have done to make Allah’s world a better place.

Summary..

Muslims believe that Allah made Adam the first khalifah of the earth, which means that he was asked to look after it. Muslims also believe that Adam passed this on to all humans so that every person on earth should act like a khalifah. This is important because you’re a Muslim and your duty is to take care of this world and it clarifies their relationship with Allah and the world.
