What does the Bible say about Noah, The Flood

and the Rainbow?Luke 17:26-27

Things we know about Noah

1. His Grandfather was Methuselah—oldest man . 969 years.

Gen. 5:27

2. His Dad was Lamech. Lamech was 182 years old when

Noah was born. Gen. 5:29

3. Noah was the father of 3 sons…Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Gen. 5:32

4. The name Noah is spoken of in about 43 verses in the

Bible.

5. Ezekiel 14:14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the

Lord God.

Something happened during Noah’s life…

God tells us…

Gen.6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart!

What will God do?

Gen. 6:7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

Verse 8..But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord!.

There was One Family WhomGod could Save!

Why? Gen. 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”

Why? Gen. 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man, and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

God’s further Description of the condition of man on the earth!

The ungodly contrasted with the Godly!

1. Gen. 6:1-4 God saw that every imagination of the thoughts of

His heart was only evil CONTINUALLY!

2. Gen. 6:12 “And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was

Corrupt: for all flesh had corrupted HIS WAY upon the earth.

Man had corrupted God’s Way…

And God said to Noah

God spoke to One Man who was serving Him!!

Gen. 6:13 And God said unto Noah. The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them, and behold, I will destroy them with the earth!”

Then the instructions given of God to Noah to build an ark!

And God tells Noah why He would need the ark!

Gen. 6:17

And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth,

To destroy all flesh, werein is the breath of life, from under heaven: and every thing that is in the earth shall die..

..but God said: I will establish my covenant with you Noah!

God said He would do it, DID HE?

Gen. 7:1 Noah was told to enter with his family into the ark

He had built.

V.4 For yet 7 days and I will cause it to rain upon the earth 40 days and 40 nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.”

Gen. 7:10

And it came to pass after 7 days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.

Gen. 7:11 The Earth is flooded…When…

In the 600th year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the 17 day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened!

God gave the year…600th year of Noah’s life.

The month…the Second Month

The day..the 17th day of the month..

Just as God said!

Gen. 7:12 And the rain was upon the earth 40 days and 40 nights!

V.19 “And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth, and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.

What? Read further..Gen. 7:20 15 cubits upward did the waters prevail: and the mountains were covered..

And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and EVERY MAN!

Gen. 7:22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, DIED!.

Gen.7:23 “And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping thing and the fowl of the heaven: and they were destroyed from the earth:

And Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

And the waters prevailed upon the earth an 150 days!

Is the Bible teaching about “The Flood” real? Was there really a ‘global flood’?

Yes

God saved Noah and his familyNoah, Shem, Ham and Japheth & their wives….

But, did it really happen? Was there a Global Flood?

Peter said it did.

I Pet. 3:20-21 while the ark was a preparing, wherein few,

That is 8 souls were saved by water…the like figure whereunto

Even baptism doth also now save us…. Mtt. 7:13,14 ..and

Few there be that find it. Will that few mean you?

2 Pet.2:5 Peter said that Noah was a preacher of righteousness.

He stood out as a devoted servant of God in a cesspool of

Immorality! “And (God) spared not the old world, but saved Noah

The 8th person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the

Flood upon the world of the ungodly…”

Talking about those who are ‘willingly ignorant of”…

2 Pet. 3:5 “For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the

Word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing

Out of the water and in the water: v.6 whereby the world that

Then was, BEING OVERFLOWED WITH WATER, PERISHED..

..Peter said it happened!

The Hebrew writer said it happened…

Heb. 11:7 “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by

The which he condemned the world, and became heir of the right-

eousness which is by faith.”

Why did he prepare an ark! God told him to:

a) Before the flood, it is never mentioned in the Bible as

Raining. We are told in Gen. 2:4-6 that plants were watered by the

Mists each morning.

b) Yet, Noah was warned by God that a flood was coming. He

Believed it. It happened!

Jesus our Lord taught that there was a flood!

In Luke 17:26-27 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be

Also in the days of the Son of man. V.27 They did eat, they drank,

They married wives, they were given in marriage, UNTIL the day

That Noah entered into the ark, and (1) the flood came (2)

And destroyed them all!

Matt. 24:36-39 “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the

Days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark.

Matt. 24:39

And knew not UNTIL THE FLOOD CAME, and TOOK THEM ALL

AWAY; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be!.

Jesus said the FLOOD CAME.

Jesus said it took them ALL away…

Only those in the ark were saved!

Jesus used the example of the destruction of mankind upon

the earth in the flood and said so shall the coming of the Son of

Man be. He used it to teach that this same thing will happen

among people who will not turn to Him and obey Him Now!

There are so many lessons we can learnfrom the actual account of the Flood.

1. There was a flood that covered the whole earth…not a limited

Area, but the whole earth!

2. There was a man and his family saved from the destruction that

was wrought by the flood. Noah—Shem-Ham-Japheth and their wives…8 people!. Few….

3. All living things that were not in the ark perished. There were

None saved outside of the Ark!.

4. So shall this be true regarding the coming of the Son of Man.

All who are not in the Lord will die…be forever separated from God.

All the Excuses people give for not obeyingGod will be useless!.

1. The world Noah lived in was a moral cesspool.

a)Some have suggested that the world’s population at that time

was equal or exceed our current world population.

I don’t know. I know that the description of the people was

that even every imagination and thoughts of their hearts was

evil continually. Gen. 6:5-6, 11-12.

b)Could you imagine living in a world where EVERYONE was totally given over to evil, except yourself and your family?

2. Noah stood out in the crowd of people.

a) He preached to them …120 years! He warned them. They would not listen. They laughed at him.

Not a single response except his family. But he saved himself and his family by doing what God commanded him! (Gen.6:22 “Thus

Did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, SO DID HE!”

Does that describe you and your family?

How much do we have to be told to prepare, be ready to meet

The Lord….Now!. 2 Cor. 6:2 The world will end! No doubt about it. The Judgment will come.Heb. 9:27; Rom. 14:10-12; 2 Pet. 3:10

3. Noah told the people the flood was coming. Over and over again…

They would not listen. .they scoffed at him and his teaching. But

Noah did not stop his preparing the ark. The people would not

Listen. And they were lost! They all died!. ..GOD DID NOT RELENT

FROM THE DESTRUCTION WROUGHT BY THE FLOOD!

..Friend.. If you are not ready to meet God today, and the earth

Is burned up…melt with fervent heat…you will be lost. You will

Die for your sins…

4. Many today deny the necessity of the church!.

a) You hear people saying, why should I be a member of the

Lord’s church? Can’t God save people who are good, but don’t

Go to worship , not members of the church.

b) Jesus built the church…All the saved are in it. Acts 2:47

c) Noah built the ark. .All of the saved were in it. I Pet.3:21

Just as those people outside of the ark died, so all those

Not in the church of the Lord will die..why? They are not where

THE LORD PUTS THE SAVED!

Is the Church really that important?

What do you think the people would tell you who were knee deep In water outside the ark? Then when the water reached to their Heads… NOT A SINGLE ONE WAS SAVED! Only 8…they were Inside the ARK!. God had prepared them a place of safety….

Just like He has prepared for us a place of safety!...The church..

Purchased with the blood of Christ! (Acts 20:28…)

Is one church as good as another?

..I don’t doubt that during Noah’s day the people owned boats to travel the waterways. But, one was not as good as another!.

.The ark of safety was the ark that God had Noah to build…300

Cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high. Only those in

IT were saved!. One church is NOT as good as another…Jesus only built one Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18. Eph. 4:4-8. The only way to get into it

Is to be baptized and let the Lord add you to his body, the church.

Acts 2:47.

.. Some may say ,but my sweet grandmother,or my aunt, etc. was not a member of the church of Christ…

..If I become a member of the Lord’s church, it would be just as if I was condemning them to hell.

..If your relatives who have preceded you in crossing the river of

Death, now see the truth that you are beginning to understand, what

Do you suppose they would urge you to do?

Scripture: Luke 16:27-31 The rich man, after his death, was concerned that his family not follow him. He wanted them warned!

..Are you going to be so stubborn that if your relatives go to hell,

Then you’ll go with them!

Conclusion:

Noah was a preacher of righteousness. He told them the truth.

God gave the people years and years…120 years..opportunity

after opportunity…He’s done that today.

The Flood is Real. It happened. And it happened just as God

Said.

Hell is a horrible place to go. But you and I will go there…if

We don’t listen to the preaching of God’s word…and obey Him.

Heb. 5:8,9

No one can obey God for you…just you.

We can urge you, pray for you, love you, beg you, and plead with

You…but that decision is yours and yours alone.

I don’t want to be outside of God’s ark of safety…do you?

What will you do about your soul?

When?

Why?

IT is entirely up to you…The flood came…it covered the earth…

And only those in the ARK were saved. Jesus is coming. He told you.

Hear Him. Rom.10:17

Believe in Him. John 8:24

Repent. Acts 17:30,31

Confess Him. Mtt. 10:32,33

Be baptized. I Pet.3:21

Live faithfully. I Cor. 15:58

And to all who have erred from the truth…Christians who

Have left their first love, Christians who have gotten involved

In the world…It is time for you to confess your sins and get

Right with God…

Just as Simon was told…Acts 8:22 Repent. Confess. Pray.

And then do something about the life you have left …Give

yourself completely to Jesus Christ.

The Rainbow! Gen. 9:12…And God said

And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth .14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the

Cloud: 15And I will remember my covenant,which is between me and you, and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters ahll no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, this is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

Even the Rainbow proves there was a flood!
