What I Learned at Church Camp Sunday
August 7, 2011
9:00am and 10:30am Worship
Dress is Super Casual
Worship is OUTSIDE on the FRONT LAWN
If you ever attended a church camp, you probably have wonderful memories of faith and friends. You
may remember how God seemed so real and so near. You made new friends who shared our love for God.
You sang fun songs, learned about the Bible in new ways, drank bug juice and ate s'mores. On Sunday, August 7, our whole congregation can experience these joys when we join together as a
church family to experience the fun and faith-building power of Church Camp without the sleepover! Here are a few things you should know:
we will have chairs on the lawn but you are welcome to bring your own lawn chairs or
blankets
no Sunday school because this service is geared for all ages
there WILL be bug juice (the kind you drink), and s'more fixings
you will enjoy other surprises that will connect us all to our God and to each other
Please join us for a unique and joyful morning!
Save the Date!!
Fox Trot 5K Fun Run/Walk
When: Saturday, September 10—Where: Fox Point Lutheran Church

will be clearly marked and the course is relatively flat so there is no need to worry about “the climb”.

Registration forms will soon be available at church as well as online. Contact Sharon Moore in the
office with questions or by email [email protected].
Sure to be a fun event for the entire family!

Living Healthy Is A Prayer
Pray About Everything
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him
for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds all understanding. His peace
will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
In my last Messenger article I confessed I was a worrier. Several readers shared with me that, they too,
struggle with the worry gene. I decided to go a little deeper into this problem. We believe as Christians that
God has total and complete control over our lives and that His will be done, not ours. Why then, is it
sometimes so hard to surrender our thoughts and worries to Him and just let Him handle everything?
Every Saturday morning I meet with two dear friends for coffee and our own version of a Bible study. Each
week we begin by naming five things that we are most grateful for. We proceed to share our joys and our
concerns. We are always telling each other to “pray about it” no matter what it is and God will guide us. This
is such a sweet reminder that God wants us to share everything with Him, especially our worries. What a
comfort it is to know that my friends, who I consider to be very faith-filled, also struggle with doubt and worry
from time to time. It is so important to recognize and share our worries and concerns with friends and family
who know us and love us. God is our heavenly father and He wants us to turn to Him for re-assurance and
love. I want to share some scriptures that address worries.
Ruminating on all my worries brings no resolution to my problems but bringing my cares before God does.
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7
How awesome it is that we as children of God can take our worries to God and know that He hears our
prayers.
The Lord hears his people when they call him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.
Psalm 34:17
He not only hears our prayers but He answers them.
I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me. Psalm 120:1
Let God take over your worries… He is much better at handling them. Start your day out with this reminder:
Good Morning!
This is God. I will be handling all your problems today.
I will not need your help. So relax and have a nice day!
Peace and health in Christ,
Joni Ledzian

Miscellaneous FYI
Outreach Opportunity
Please consider signing up to take dinner to Serenity
Inn, a residence at 2825 W. Brown in Milwaukee for
men in recovery from alcohol and/or drug abuse.
Open dates are these: Fridays - Aug. 19, Oct. 21 and
Dec. 16; Thursdays - Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8;
Wednesdays - Sept. 28, Oct. 26, Nov. 23, and Dec.
28.
The commitment involves making dinner at home for
5-10 residents, taking it warm to the Inn at 6pm, and
sharing the meal and fellowship with the residents.
You are most often on your way home by 7pm, and
the anti-drug/alcohol message from the residents is
especially appropriate for the young people among
us.
If you are interested in signing up or would like more
information, stop at the Outreach Kiosk where you
will find the sign up folder and a FAQs handout,
contact Lorraine Buehler at 414-964-8933 or
[email protected], OR sign up online at
volunteerwiz.com/calendar/foxpointlutheran. The
password is fplc.
7th and 8th Grade Confirmation
Registration for the 2011-2012 Confirmation
program is currently taking place. All 7th and 8th
grade students should have received an informational
mailing which included a registration form. If you
didn’t receive this mailing or are new to the church
and would like to take part in Confirmation, please
contact Linda Cole at [email protected]
or call the church office (352-8990). Please return
your registration form if you haven’t already done
so.
Worship Assistant Needed Third Sunday of the Month
Are you interested in the “behind-the-scenes” work
to make sure the worship service runs smoothly? If
so, please consider becoming a Worship Assistant on
the 3rd Sunday of each month. Your responsibilities
include assisting the acolytes with their robes and
candle lighting, and washing out the blender after
Pastor Bill makes a Sermon Smoothie! You will
arrive before the 9:00am service and stay until the
candles are lit for the 10:30 service. Please contact
Susan Janik if you are interested in this position or if
you have any questions. Phone: (414) 803-3427
Celebration Sunday
September 11, 2011
Mark your calendars for Celebration Sunday,
September 11. Watch for announcements of new
programs that support the Fox Point Lutheran
Church mission of Engaging Enthusiastic Followers
of Jesus.
Service times: 8:00, 9:00 & 10:30am Sunday School
(children age 3 through Grade 6) 9:00 & 10:30am.
The inflatable slide and bouncer will be back for this
Sunday!
Attention Photo Enthusiasts
and Camera Bugs
If you love to take pictures, we need your help. We
are “building” a Fox Point Church photo library. If
you take pictures at any church sponsored event
(including community outreach and service projects),
we would love to share them with everyone in the
congregation. This includes all church-related
activities from Vacation Bible School to the Holiday
Boutique, and everything in-between.
Please email your photos directly to Deb Schmidt,
[email protected] If possible, take a
few minutes to select your best shots and remove
duplicates (this will save us a little editing time at
church). For batches of 10 or more photos, please
copy them to a computer disc or flash drive and drop
it off in Deb’s mailbox at the church office. Deb will
return your flash drive.
Who Says It’s Too Early to Send Out Christmas Cards?? Last week Fox Point Lutheran received its first Christmas card—from Kerala, India.
Kerela, with a population of 33 million, is a popular tourist destination on India’s southwest coast. Although Kerala enjoys beautiful natural beauty—“God’s Own Country”-- and a high Human Development Index (a measure of stats including life expectancy, literacy, and education), it has a low Economic Development Index. It was also one of the areas hit hard by the 2004 tsunami.
Our card came from a 6th grade boy, Shijil, who is living in a small Christian orphanage in Kerala. Shijil writes:
My most important duty is to study well. My hobby is playing cricket. I have many poor Muslim and Hindu friends in school. The pencils, pens, etc. that you gave me were shared with them. Using suitable occasions, I would tell them the stories of Jesus Christ.
I request you pray for me and I would like to thank you for the gift that you sent me. I was feeling guilty for not thanking you for so long. [He had lost our address in a move.] I would like to know the news and information about you.
With much love and regards to you. Shijil I am always so touched that we are able to reach out in love to so many places and to so many chil-dren throughout the world with Operation Christmas Child. As you can see, even a few pens and pencils can make a difference.
At last count, we had about 350 shoe boxes beginning to pile up downstairs. We have a long way to go, but I know that next November our boxes will go even further in sharing God’s love to many of the children in the world who need it most.

Habitat Progress

Thanks to all who volunteered to help build our Habitat house. The "Blitz Build Week" was a huge success.
We had a total of 42 volunteers this week with 19 of Fox Point Church members volunteering for multiple
days.
Check out the awesome work that was accomplished in our Habitat for Humanity Photo Album found via
the church website, www.foxpointchurch.org, under Service Opportunities! Below are just a few of the photos
taken.

Charity Golf Classic Saturday, September 24 is the date of the Golf Classic. It will be held at the Fire Ridge Golf
Course in Grafton. The silent auction associated with it will be held in Fellowship Hall on
Sundays September 18 and September 25.
Registration is now open for golfers. The committee is requesting the donation of items for the
Golf Classic Silent Auction, volunteers to assist in all aspects of the event from recruiting
golfers, soliciting sponsors and silent auction items, assisting on the golf course, and staging the
silent auction. The proceeds from the silent auction and our generous sponsors and golfers make
it possible for the Outreach Ministry Committee to sustain ministry through organizations such
as Serenity Inns, the Kujichagulia Center/Seedfolks Youth Ministry, Shoreline Interfaith and
others.
You can support this wonderful event by golfing and inviting relatives, neighbors and friends
who are not members of FPLC to golf with you. The non-golfers can and should join the golfers
for cocktails, dinner and fellowship. Check out the event brochure which was mailed to your
home. If you have any questions call Linda Cole at the church office (414) 352-8990 or David
Romoser (262) 241-5298.
