What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
Why I chose this questionIn my personal experience and living across cultures- the most dangerous limit is not of resources, or
money- the way we interpret things, questions that have not
occurred to us to ask- dangerous because we are limited and do not knowWhy does this even matter for entrepreneurs?before ideas- what imagination is shaping the limits of
our 'ideas'?
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
Other variations of this questionIs it possible that entrepreneurship may not just be
about creating possibility but creating possibility for everyone?
Not just about progress but about equity? Can entrepreneurship be inclusive of the marginalized
and the vulnerable? What if the entrepreneurial imagination is not yet big
enough? It is a question so I don't have the answer
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
On the one hand -economic progress and the rising of continents, latest and coolest technological innovations
On the other - best possibilities co-existing with the worst possibilities
WHO “hidden cities” - people in the most developed cities live “third world” lives
Not counted - invisible in our understandingthe alter-egos, legally, financially, property wise,
language wise, health wise, physically excluded
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
Is this the world we want?
The latest and coolest things and innovation existing side by side with the worst outcomes?
If not, then we need to look at systems and not just innovation
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
Cool innovations and cool ideas are not enough - commodities to gifts, sharing economy, design, - technological innovation - faster, seamlessStill not enoughe.g health innovations for chronic diseases- apps,
gadgets, devices improve quality, satisfactiondon't improve overall health in N/America because
they are not integrated into the systems- they are not equitable
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
The imagination that is shaping entrepreneurship is very crucial
-How about we change the system not just cheat it or make it cuter or smarter or faster?
- Harder
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
Hypothesis 1Before disruptive innovation must come disruptive
questionsWhat is a disruptive question?- not people like us but inviting people unlike us into
conversation.- opportunity in our globalized world e.g. how I came here
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
Hypothesis 2Listen deeper to our systems- what is this issue telling me about society?- young boys and gun violence- American society,
adolescence?- More loneliness, depression anxiety - what is it telling
me not just about the person but about society?- who am I not seeing in my daily life? Who is on the
cracks and the edges? Why?
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
Hypothesis 3Don't be afraid to confront like an artist- ask questions that you are afraid to ask & you are
afraid don't have answers- sit with difficulty and contradiction- be willing to be confused- move toward difference not just comfort
What if the only limits are the limits of our imagination? - Ebele Mogo
Why I don't like positive thinking?- not at the expense of reality and asking difficult and
necessary questions- If you can't do anything focus on what you can do- Just because you can't do anything doesn't mean you
should not be human and see - Criticize by creating*** ....but first by confronting
