In case of a decrease of demand...

BARCELONA Monthly tickets slightly decrease (-1,8 % up to september 2009). Weekly tickets low increase. No changes in the purposes of the trip have been observed. Metro has declined (-3,5 %), but city buses increase (2,1%). There is a relative loss of weight of working days.

BIRMINGHAM There has been no overall recent decrease in public transport use, but there has been a slow decline in bus use. Small reduction in general traffic.

MADRID a) In 2008, urban buses decreased 6.5%, Metro 0.3%, Surburban railways 1.9% and interurban buses 2.0%. In 2009, rail modes decrease -7 %, and interurban buses -9,5 %.

b) All tickets, except single tickets, have decreased in the same proportion.

MANCHESTER a) Especially in low-income areas and during evenings

b) The fall in evening travel probably reflects fewer leisure trips.

PRAGUE a) The biggest decrease was noticed in the sales of short-term tickets (1 day – 5 days)

b) The decline seems to be related to a decreased number of tourists. Since the unemployment rate is rising, the number of journeys to work has decreased.

Maybe less optional journeys. With regard to modal share, bus and tram are declining, but train is more resilient.

VILNIUS Decrease in monthly tickets. People buy tickets more for one transport mode instead of common ticket for all modes of transport

AMSTERDAM Decrease of the length of daily traffic jams on the main roads, but no relevant data on modal share.
