  • What Ingredients Do Cookies Need?

AbsractIn this experiment, cookies will be made but substituting certain ingredients.

In separate batches instead of all-purpose flour, coconut flour willbe used,

syrup instead of vanilla, yogurt instead of butter, powdered sugar instead of

sugar, and cream of tartar instead of baking powder. The hypothesis is that

the cookie with cream of tartar instead of baking powder would be the most

different. It is also predicted that the cookie with syrup instead of vanilla

would have no difference. The first hypothesis was not supported. The most

different cookie was the cookie with yogurt. The second hypothesis was

supported. The cookie with vanilla had no difference only that it was a bit

    chewier.

ConclusionThe original hypothesis was that the cookie with the cream of tartar was

going to be the most different. The hypothesis was based on background

research. Both baking powder and cream of tartar have the same acidic

base. This hypothesis was not supported in the experiment. The cookie that

was the most different was the yogurt cookie. This difference between the

control cookie and the one with cream of tartar was that the experimented

cookie was darker and harder. The yogurt cookies had a bubble on the top

and were a lot lighter than the control. This hypothesis was made based on

background research. Cookies need moisture and it was thought that

melted butter and yogurt had the same consistency.

    Claim

The evidence shows that if baking powder is replaced with cream of tartar that the cookie will neither feel or taste like a regular cookie.

    Reasoning

After tasting the control and cream of tartar cookie, it was found that the experimented cookie was very crunchy like a normal cookie.

Data QuestionWhich ingredient used to bake cookies is the most

important and least important? This asks which cookie

ingredient including flour, baking soda, sugar, syrup, and

butter will change the cookie if it is substituted with

coconut flour, cream of tartar, powdered sugar, syrup, and

    yogurt.

    Hypothesis

My hypothesis is that if I substitute syrup for vanilla then

there will be little to no difference. I also predict that if I

use cream of tartar instead of baking soda it will be the

    most different.
