BTECs include both theory and application of skills (applied learning)

This means that the learner gets to practise the skills that they learn, which means that you gain valuable employability skills during

the course

BTECs are assessed within the establishment (‘centre’) which delivers them

Evidence for assessment is continual (this means that there are no examinations). This evidence can take a number of different forms e.g. written/filmed/witnessed by an assessor

Edexcel is the exam board which is responsible for all BTEC programmes and they check a sample of the work which each ‘centre’ assesses

This depends on the course you take…

BTECs in Sport – these are graded with a D*, D (distinction), M (merit) or P (pass)

BTEC WorkSkills – you either pass once you have submitted enough evidence or you are asked to submit further evidence

…as there are no exams you never fail! It is just a question of having sufficient evidence in order to gain the qualification
