Athleticare Sports Health Foundation, Inc. is excited to
welcome you to our annual Experience Sports Medicine
workshop for high school students interested in a career
in the fields of athletic training and sports medicine.
The curriculum is designed to expose students to many
facets of the athletic training profession and other
sports medicine careers. Students will engage
in interactive lectures, laboratory experiences on
musculoskeletal anatomy, prevention and care of
sports injuries, rehabilitation, and emergency medical
procedures. The curriculum will be presented by
certified athletic trainers and other professionals
working in the sports medicine field. Other highlights
of the workshop include a trip to South East Missouri
State University for a tour of the campus along with
an interactive experience with the athletic training
education program’s faculty and students and
presentations by faculty from local athletic training
programs. A t-shirt and lunch will be provided daily
to all attendees. The program is offered to high school
students at no cost.
What is an Athletic Trainer?Certified athletic trainers are medical experts in
preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating
injuries that result from physical activity. Athletic training
is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA)
as an allied health care profession, and the AMA
recommends certified athletic trainers in every high
school to keep America’s youth safe and healthy. As part
of a complete health care team, the certified athletic
trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician
and in cooperation with other health care professionals,
athletics administrators, coaches and parents. Certified
athletic trainers work in secondary schools, colleges and
universities, professional sports, sports medicine clinics,
military, and industrial and commercial settings.
Students who want to become certified athletic trainers
must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training
curriculum and successfully past the Board of
Certification (BOC) exam.
