What is Blueprinting and how can
it help you?

Background to GDE Blueprinting
• GDE blueprints are expected to help other NHS Trusts deliver digital capabilities more quickly and cost effectively than has been possible in the past.
• A structured collection of knowledge assets and associated methodology for using them. Interactive guides demonstrating improvements to pathways, settings and capability, they can be tailored by health systems and providers to suit needs and requirements.
• GDE blueprints detail important components needed for sustainable digital transformation like organisational leadership and culture; technical and configuration guidance; clinical and staff engagement as well as the people and processes required.
• All GDE and Fast Followers required to produce number of blueprints as part of funding agreements as they will form a key part of the spread strategy.
Blueprinting – progress update
• New Blueprinting area of the Global Digital Exemplar Community Platform (FutureNHS – Kahootz) went live on 31st January.
• It features an initial library of 34 Blueprints covering digital transformation solutions for care settings, care pathways, digital capability and general improvements.
• These have all been reviewed and assured by a combination of the central Blueprinting team, SMEs, policy teams, regional reps and Steering Group members. They were endorsed at December 2018/January 2019 SG meetings.
• The platform also features GDE/Blueprint news and events; guides and tools for sites to create Blueprints as well as video content.

Blueprinting platform – early usage stats
In February 2019 we had 89 new users and 422 total workspace users with 2,534 page views.
In March 2019 we had 72 new users and 505 total workspace users with 1,929 page views.
The most visited parts of the site during March were:
1. Conceptualising and Initiating an Effective EPMA Project 2. Allied Health Professionals EPR Implementation 3. MyCare: MK (Patient Portal – Outpatient Appointment
Management) 4. Mobilising the Workforce 5. Oncology e-Prescribing Integrated with an EPR
Blueprinting – progress update
• Next tranche (Winter) of around 30 Blueprints now submitted by sites - will include first ambulance Blueprint, a joint effort across the three GDE Ambulance Trusts.
• Support was again provided to all sites by designated central Blueprinting Team leads. However, additional capacity was secured with NEL CSU during February / March 2019 to support on programme delivery.
• These Blueprints are being quality assured and reviewed by a mix of national and regional experts and will be published from this week (8th April).

Blueprinting – early communications activity
• Communications approach agreed and shared with GDEs/FFs and partners. Aligns to Long Term Plan messaging and communications activity.
• PR and marketing activity for launch of platform and first wave of Blueprints included:• Working with GDE Comms Network to co-ordinate efforts• Developing material including blogs and social media content• Targeting trade press and key media• Using NHS England and Digital regional teams for cascade.
Blueprinting – further planned activity
• In next few weeks PR and marketing activity for second wave of Blueprints includes:• Promoting series of videos from GDE sites demonstrating Blueprints in action• Setting up dedicated webexes with Blueprinting authors at range of trusts• Using existing health/digital networks and publication channels to reach key
stakeholders• Developing content for high profile events including CCIO/CIO/CNIO Summer
School and EXPO.
