5 how is system implementation managed?each facility/site has a unique set of implementation requirements including timing, system and operational integration, testing, training and maintenance. to address these site-specific needs, system implementation is often planned as a sub-plan that is an integral part of the overall project plan.

7 What about our old emergency wash showers from Brand x? our experience shows that many older emergency wash units can be upgraded as part of a site retrofit. Handling of existing units will be included as part of the water tempering system plan.

8 What is the cost of a typical emergency shower/eye/face wash and water tempering system?each system is designed and built to meet site-specific requirements. many factors influence the cost of the overall system. common cost drivers include: peak water flow demand, location and characteristics of incoming water source, characteristics of current infrastructure at system installation site, distance between water source and water usage locations, number of water usage locations, system monitoring and integration requirements, geographic location, and power requirements. the best way to get a cost estimate is to contact Haws integrated™ to receive a quote.

9 Why not just build it ourselves? increasing regulatory requirements (ansi z358.1) have resulted in the need for more capable emergency shower/eye/face wash systems. Failure to meet these necessary standards places personnel at physical risk and exposes the firm to extraordinarily punishing financial penalties. over the years, the Haws integrated™ team has developed valuable regulatory knowledge combined with deep engineering expertise which is uniquely suited for addressing water tempering and emergency shower/eye/face wash systems requirements.

10 What is the difference between a drench shower/combination unit and a decontamination shower? a drench shower/combination unit is a floor or wall-mounted single drench shower or drench shower and eye/face wash. a decontamination unit is a fully-enclosed shower and eye/face wash booth that supplies tempered water for flushing during emergency situations in all-weather conditions.

11 What is the difference between an eye/face wash and an eyewash?an eyewash will usually have designated streams of flow only for the eyes. an eye/face wash will have streams that will wash the eyes and most portions of the face.

12 is there a reference that discusses where a safety shower or eye/face wash station is required?the msds of the chemicals you are working with will tell you what ppe equipment is required. it will indicate if a shower or an eye/face wash is required or not. usually with chemicals, acids, or corrosives it is a given that shower equipment is required. consult the medical/safety professions within your facility to determine the requirement.

13 is there a difference between an emergency tempering valve and a master mixing valve?absolutely. a thermostatic mixing valve is not necessarily designed to fail open in the event that hot water is passed through. if the valve was to fail and produce too hot of water, the mixing valve needs to shut off the hot water for safety shower application and bypass cold water to the equipment so there is no performance loss at the shower or the eye/face wash. likewise, if the valve was to lose cold water supply, then no water is to be passed to the shower or eyewash, as burning could occur. all of the Haws thermostatic mixing valves feature the cold water bypass and are csa certified to asse 1071.
