What is Kuya Fish Campaign?

An empowered youth community consists of Japanese and Filipino that are imbued with the spirit ofvolunteerism grounded with its core values. Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao, Philippines

Filipino-Japanese youths volunteer work camp organization.Mission:

-To support the Filipino typhoon survivors

-To build a strong bridge between Japanese and Filipino youth

- To provide support for the marginalize to help alleviate poverty and encourage unity among people in the

community.

Vision:

- We envision KFC as a catalyst for community building.

Goal:

- Building networks for a collaborative effort in helping the needy, giving them hope and empowering genuine

service.

From Japan, to the World, for Philippines. :)

HISTORY

Issey Tanaka, a Japanese student came all the way from Japan to Cagayan de Oro City to help with the Sendong

Relief Operation. When he visited one of the most devastated areas, he recalled his experiences from Tsunami

volunteer in Japan and Flood Relief volunteer in Thailand. He decided to make actions and movements from Japan

to the world to contribute for the victims in Philippines.

According to him, most people around the world do not know anything about this disaster. Mass-Medias around

the world chose not to report much about this, as it did not have much impact and influence to the international

economy. As a result, nobody knows about it, then not much people and organizations are supporting to donate

for the relief operations at that moment.

From then, he gathered Japanese youth to join his cause with the help of Filipino volunteers and was able to make

possible some projects for the Sendong survivors. He started a campaign for Sendong survivors and calls it Kuya

Fish Campaign. People tend to mispronounce his name especially the kids. With that, they decided to call him

Kuya Isda which later on turned into Kuya Fish. Basically, everything started with a campaign and now its

slowly moving forward into something more sustainable.

"If you FEED man a fish, you will feed him for a day. If you TEACH man HOW to fish, you'll feed him forever."

The first thing that comes into mind is.. dandarandan.. FISH! (obviously)

You must think Im really weird to be writing about an a aquatic creature but this slimy animal is actually changing

my society. Little by little.

How? Maybe youre thinking the fish is going to develop super powers and grow 20 ft tall to take out the bad guys

- youve got the wrong movie dude.

The thing about this Fish is that it swims around to build dreams. It crosses far seas just to help others. It swims the

Pacific ocean to desolated areas that needs economic attention from those in power. This Fish educates kids,

builds houses (thats not a mistake, houses not corals ) and gives opportunity for a better life. No, the Fish is not

political, if youre asking. It is simply concerned about the things that are constantly ignored by most of us because

we care more about what dress to wear to a party or what the latest showbi z news and all things that dont even

matter.

The Fish actually symbolizes the people who have keener eyes for social development. Theyre the ones who takes

action to address these alarming concerns of poverty, illiteracy, discrimination to name a few. They are brave

souls. Maybe not built tough and strong physically but theyre hearts and minds are like those of war veterans.

Imagine a fish made of iron, strong and invincible yet graceful and tranquil in the depths of the ocean.

Why become a Fish?

Because its cool, challenging and fun!

How would I know that?

Because I am one.
